Pitt Gymnastics Set for Season Home Opener at the Fitzgerald Field House

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (2-1-0, 0-0-0 ACC) is set to host their season home opener on Saturday, Jan. 13 as they welcome the Kent State Golden Flashes. This dual meet is slated for 4 PM and will air on the ACC Network Extra.

LAST TIME OUT
- The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team opened their 2024 season at the annual Keystone Classic Friday evening at the Palestra.
- The Panthers topped the Penn Quakers and Temple Owls but fell to the Penn State Nittany Lions, claiming second place overall.
- Three freshmen Panthers made their collegiate debut this evening including Kaylee Larson, Julie Madso and Emily Todd along with transfers Shruthi Anand, Jah'Liyah Bedminster and Arayah Simons making their debuts as Pitt Panthers.
- Freshman Duke was Pitt's only All-Around competitor this evening – placing second-place overall with her total score of 38.150.
- Senior Bedminster finished strong for the Panthers, posting a 9.850 for her routine. With her score, she secured the second-place title this evening.
- Both Simons and Ewing tied for the third-place title on bars with their score of 9.825.
- Freshman Todd secured the first-ever ACC Newcomer of the Week honor for the Panthers with her performance at the Keystone Classic.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN FLASHES
- This will be Kent State's season opening meet for their 2024 campaign.
- Last season, the Golden Flashes
- Kent State secured fourth in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Poll along with placing two gymnasts on the MAC Gymnasts to Watch list.
- The last time the Panthers and the Golden Flashes met was in 2021 where the Pitt earned two event individual titles but fell short overall to Kent State.
- Saturday's dual meet will be the 30th meeting between the two programs, with the Flashes leading the series, 20-9.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head down to Littlejohn Coliseum to face off against the Clemson Tigers in their first ever ACC matchup. The meet will take place on Sunday, Jan. 21 at 4 PM.
