
Pitt Gymnastics Opens 2024 Season on the Road at Annual Keystone Classic

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (0-0, 0-0 ACC) will open its 2024 season with the annual Keystone Classic against Penn, Penn State, and Temple at 6 PM ET at The Palestra in Philadelphia, PA. This will be the third annual Keystone Classic quad meet.

KEYSTONE CLASSIC
- Friday's Meet against Penn, Penn State and Temple will be Pitt's second appearance at the third annual Keystone Classic meet. Due to COVID-19 protocols, the Panthers had to withdraw from the 2022 meet.
RETURNING FOR THE PANTHERS
- Pitt returns 12 Panthers who competed in the 2023 season, including four who earned All-EAGL Tournament honors and two NCAA Regional Qualifiers. Overall, the Panthers completed the season with an NQS of 195.655, ranking 45 in the Road to Nationals standings.
- Hallie Copperwheat led the Panthers with nine individual titles in 2023. She was one of three Panthers to match a program high 9.950 on bars and one of two to earn a 9.950 on beam.
- Reyna Garvey was a showstopper in her first year as a Panther. She qualified for the NCAA Regional Championships on beam as well as earned four individual titles in the 2023 season. She was also one of two Panthers to earn a 9.950 on beam.
NEW PANTHERS
- The Panthers welcome seven new faces to the 2024 roster with three transfers students and four freshmen.
- Jah'Liyah Bedminster comes to Pitt after spending the last two seasons with the LIU Sharks. Arayah Simons joins the team from the University of Illinois where she recorded her career high 9.950 on floor. Shruthi Anand becomes a Panther after spending the last three seasons apart of the NC State Wolfpack.
SCOUTING PENN
- The Quakers found themselves in first place at the Gymnastics East Championships and came in at No. 56 on the Road to Nationals final rankings of the 2023 season.
- Friday will be the 5th meeting between the Panthers and the Quakers with Pitt holding a 4-0 lead over Penn.
SCOUTING PENN STATE
- The Nittany Lions completed the 2023 season at No. 25 on the Road to Nationals final rankings with an NQS of 196.415.
- This will be the 47th time in program history that the two programs have met. The Nittany Lions currently own a 43-3 all-time series edge to the Panthers.
SOUTING TEMPLE
- The Temple Owls finished the 2023 season with an NQS of 195.490, coming in at No. 49 to top off the season.
- The Panthers saw Temple last season at both the Keystone Classic and the EAGL Championship. This will be the 37th time the Panthers and the Owls have met in program history.
UP NEXT
The Panthers will head back to Pittsburgh for the season home opener as they host Kent State on Jan. 13 at 4 PM.
