LOUISVILLE, KY – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team (8-2-0, 1-1-0 ACC) fell to the University of Lousiville Cardinals (2-4-4, 1-0-1 ACC) at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn on Thursday evening. Ashton Gordon netted her first goal of the season for the Panthers in tonight's 3-2 loss.

Just before the second minute, Keera Melenhorst posted the first shot for the Panthers at the bottom center of the net but was saved by the Cardinals' goalie.

In the 34^th minute, the Cardinals scored their first goal of the evening, finding the top left corner of the net just below the crossbar.

The Panthers continued to create chances for points in the first half with both Landy Mertz and Amanda West posting shots on target.

Pitt posted five shots, two shots on goal, two saves and four corner kicks in the first 45 minutes of play.

Coming into the second half, the Panthers were ready to create more scoring opportunities.

Gordon posted a shot to the bottom center of the goal but was saved by Louisville's goalie. The Cardinals netted their second goal of the evening in the 57^th minute after making an opening between them and our defenders.

The Panthers placed their first goal of the night when Gordon made a smart decision to secure the points on a penalty kick.

Just moments later, Louisville completed their final goal, leaving just under 15 minutes left of play.

In the 83^rd minute, Mertz found Sarah Schupansky at the net where she completed the second goal of the night for the Panthers.

The Panthers held the 16-12 edge for shots, 8-6 in shots on goal, and 8-3 in corner kicks. Pitt held 58% of the possession in tonight's ACC matchup.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will return home to Ambrose Urbanic Field for their ACC home opener against Notre Dame. The matchup will take place on Sunday, Sept. 24 with a 1 PM first kick.
