Pitt Women’s Soccer Welcomes No. 10 Notre Dame in ACC Home Opener

Come celebrate Pups at the Pitch Day
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team (8-2-0, 1-1-0 ACC) is set to host No. 10 Notre Dame (6-1-2. 2-0-0 ACC) in ACC home opener on Sunday, Sept. 24 at 1 PM. Sunday's matchup will be aired on ACC Network Extra.
The ACC contest at Ambrose Urbanic Field will celebrate Pups at the Pitch! Fans are welcome to bring their pups to the matchup and grab a FREE Pitt Women's Soccer dog frisbee, while supplies last.

THE SERIES
- Sunday's matchup will be the 19th meeting overall between the two programs.
- No. 10 Notre Dame currently holds a 10-game winning streak against Pittsburgh.
- The Fighting Irish hold a 15-1-2 lead over the Panthers.
- In September of 2022, Pitt upset Notre Dame for the first time in program history with a 3-1 win.
- Last time out, the Panthers and Irish met at the 2022 ACC Women's Soccer Championship where they drew a 1-1 tie. Notre Dame took the win after a 5-4 penalty kick shootout.
SCOUTING NO. 10 NOTRE DAME
- The Fighting Irish trailed 1-0 for the first 85 minutes of the matchup against the No. 16 Duke Blue Devils on Thursday evening.
- Notre Dame's graduate student Kiki Van Zanten put the first points on the board for the Irish, tapping in the ball at the far post.
- Leah Klenke completed the game winning goal no more than a minute later to take the win against Duke.
- Thursday's win against the Blue Devils was the first time Notre Dame had upset Duke since 2015.
RECAPPING THURSDAY'S MATCHUP
- In Thursday night's matchup against Louisville, the Panthers posted strong efforts but fell 3-2 to the Cardinals.
- Louisville put their name on the board first, finding the top left corner of the net.
- Pitt continued to create scoring opportunities as they held the possession for the majority of the first half.
- The Cardinals secured their second goal on the evening, sending the ball into the net after creating an opening between our defenders.
- The Panthers placed their first goal of the night when Gordon made a smart decision to convert the points on a penalty kick.
- Louisville completed their final goal on the night, leaving 15 minutes left of play.
- The Panthers fought back as Sarah Schupansky scored the second goal on the night for Pitt off of Landy Metz's assist.
- Pitt held the 16-12 edge for shots, 8-6 in shots on goal, and 8-3 in corner kicks to Louisville. The Panthers held 58% of the possession in Thursday's contest.

- Amanda West is currently third in the nation for career goals (45), points (111), goals per game (0.75) and points per game (1.85). The fifth-year is also ranked first overall in shots per game (4.20), and shots on goal per game (2.30) in the ACC.
- Landy Mertz is ranked fourth in the ACC for assists per game (0.60).
- Samiah Phiri is ranked second in the conference and 15th in the nation for game winning goals.
- Sarah Schupanksy is ranked first in the ACC for points per game (1.90), total points (19) and total goals (7).
- Pitt is second in the nation for shots per game (21.50), shots on goal per game (10.50), and corner kicks (9.00), and tied for third in the nation for assists per game (3.20).
