PITTSBURGH – Pitt found a late offensive spark to take both games of a doubleheader against Akron at Vartabedian Field, Tuesday evening. The Panthers won by the scores of 6-5 and 8-2 to improve to 21-19 on the season and 18-8 in non-conference matchups.
Senior Bailey Drapola had a day at the plate, going a combined 5-for-7 with four RBI, two home runs and two runs scored. Redshirt-sophomore Dani Drogemuller dealed in the doubleheader, picking up a save in the first game and earning the win in the second.

Graduate student Yvonne Whaley got the Panthers on the board on a solo home run with two outs. The Zips answered with a solo shot of their own, but the back-and-forth game continued as Pitt took back a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning off a Drapola single.
Akron used consistent hitting and a three-run double from Laurel Devoe to put up four runs in the fifth inning and take 5-2 lead. The Panthers went three and out to finish the fifth, but Kat Rodriguez launched a solo home run to left field to wake up the Panthers offense.
