TOWSON, MD – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (9-9, 2-2 EAGL) knock out the NC State Wolfpack, but fell to the Towson Tigers and Temple Owls at SECU Arena Friday evening.
Sophomore Hallie Copperwheat and freshman Natalia Pawlak both secured new career-high scores on bars – matching the program high record and tying for the first-place title overall.
BEAM
Pitt started the evening's event off on beam. Copperwheat earned a 9.775 en route to the all-around. Sophomore Kendall Foy earned a career-high – posting a 9.750. The Panthers finished the first rotation with a 48.225.
FLOOR
The Panthers showed strong routines during the second rotation – earning their second highest score of the night. Copperwheat tied for the third-place title on floor – posting a 9.875. Sophomore Jordyn Ewing posted a 9.825 for her routine. Sidney Washington was not far behind - earning a 9.800. Pitt finished the rotation with a 48.950.
VAULT
Freshman Kennedy Duke and Washington both posted a 9.825. Freshman Jillian Zitcovich made her collegiate debut this evening – earning a 9.800. The Panthers finished third rotation with a 48.850.
BARS
Pitt finished the evening with their strongest rotation – earning a 49.250. Both Copperwheat and Pawlak matched the program record and set new career-high scores for their routine – earning a 9.950. Pawlak's routine earned her a 10.00 from one judge. Their performances tied them for the first-place title. Washington posted a 9.850 for her routine. Copperwheat completed the all-around with her score of a 39.275 – earning the third-place title overall. The Panthers completed the evening with a 195.275 total team score.
