
No. 11 Panthers Set for ACC Championship Semifinals Against Top-Seed Florida State

CARY, NC – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team is set to face No. 1 Florida State in the 2023 Ally ACC Championship Semifinals on Thursday, Nov. 2 at WakeMed Soccer Park. This matchup will air live on ACC Network and will kick off at 8 p.m.
This is the first time in program history that the Panthers have advanced to the semifinals of the ACC Championships.
The Panthers earned their highest United Soccer Coaches rankings - coming in at No. 11 in the Week 11 poll.

THE SERIES
- This will be the 13th meeting between the Panthers and the Seminoles with Florida State holding a 12-0 edge on Pitt.
- This will be the second time the Panthers have met the Seminoles this season.
- Last time out, the Panthers fought hard until the end, but fell short to the Seminoles, 3-2.
- The Panthers are looking to continue their momentum from their historic night in Chapel Hill to upset Florida State for the first time in program history.
SCOUTING THE SEMINOLES
- The Seminoles completed their regular season contest with a 5-0 shutout against NC State on Thursday evening.
- Florida State went into halftime only up one against NC State, but was able to produce four goals in the final 45 minutes of play.
- The Seminoles were able to clinch the outright ACC Regular Season Championship – completing their first full undefeated regular season in program history.
- Florida State has yet to lose a matchup this season – holding a 14-0-1, 8-0-1 ACC record.
- Just under two weeks ago when the Panthers faced off against the Seminoles, Pitt was able to place multiple goals against Florida State for the first time in program history.
RECAPPING THE HISTORIC WIN
- The Panthers made history tonight at Dorrance Field as they secured their spot in the 2023 Ally ACC Championship semifinals after upsetting No. 3 North Carolina, 2-1.
- This is the first time in program history that Pitt secured a win over the Tar Heels.
- The score was even at 0-0 heading into halftime with the Panthers holding the advantage in shots (8-5), shots on goal (3-2), and corner kicks (3-2).
- At the 72nd minute, Ellie Coffield put the Panthers on the board first after heading in goal off of Mertz's assist.
- The Tar Heels equalized the board moments later to put the scores at 1-1.
- At the end of the first period of overtime, Amanda West secured the second goal for the Panthers – heading in the ball off of Mertz and Sarah Schupansky's assists.
- Pitt continued to dominate the field in the final period of the evening, keeping the Tar Heels from attempting any scoring opportunities.
- The Panthers completed the night with 19-14 shots, 8-6 shots on goal and 9-5 corner kicks.
