
No. 18 Panthers Fall to No. 8 Clemson Sunday Afternoon

CLEMSON, SC – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team (12-4-1, 5-3-1 ACC) fell to the No. 8 Clemson Tigers (13-1-3, 7-1-1 ACC) at Historic Riggs Field, Sunday afternoon. Sophomore goalkeeper Ellie Breech posted seven saves on the afternoon – tying her career high record.
Pitt put up two shots in the first half with one on goal. Amanda West placed her name on both of those scoring opportunities.
Breech collected the majority of her saves in the first 45 minutes – keeping the board even at 0-0 for both teams.
The Panthers went into the locker room tied with the Tigers, 0-0.
In the first few minutes of play in the second half, the Panthers posted a pair of shots by Samiah Phiri and Sarah Schupansky.
Clemson was able to find an opening in the back line and place their only goal on the afternoon in the 53rdminute of play.
Pitt found their momentum and continued to hold the majority of possession in the second half – creating a number of scoring opportunities. In the 67th minute, Schupanksy launched a ball from behind the box, forcing a save by Clemson's goalkeeper.
The Panthers fought hard until the end with the defensive back remaining disciplined and consistently focused.
Pitt had eight shots, five shots on goal, seven saves and 10 corners on the afternoon.

The Panthers will return home to Ambrose Urbanic Field as they play host to Virginia Tech to close out the regular season schedule. This ACC matchup will kick off at 7 PM on Thursday, Oct. 26.
