
No. 17 Pitt Women’s Soccer Heads to Syracuse

PITTSBURGH – The No. 17 Pitt women's soccer team (11-2-1, 4-1-1 ACC) travels to Syracuse, NY on Saturday, Oct. 14 to meet the Orange (2-10-2, 0-5-1 ACC). This ACC matchup will kick off at 1 PM and will be streamed live on ACCNX with Philip Galati and Nicholas Waley on the call.
The Pittsburgh Panthers earned a spot back on the United Soccer Coaches rankings after defeating two ranked team last week. With these wins, the Panthers also secured the NCAA Team of the Week status.

THE SERIES
- Saturday afternoon's matchup will be the 25th meeting between the Panthers and the Orange.
- Currently, Syracuse holds a 12-7-5 edge on Pitt, but the Panthers a three-win streak.
- Last time out, the Panthers left the Orange scoreless, taking a 2-0 win late last October.
- Pitt is looking to continue their winning streak against Syracuse on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
- The Orange have yet to secure an ACC win this season, 0-5-1.
- In Sunday afternoon's matchup against Louisville, Syracuse fell 2-1.
- The Orange was able to complete 10 saves with Shea Vanderbosch in goal and one goal scored by Anna Rupert.
- Vanderbosch collected her third double-digit save total in the last five games played, bringing her up to fifth on Syracuse's single-season save list.
RECAPPING SUNDAY'S RANKED WIN
- The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer team defeated the No. 17 Wake Forest Demon Deacons Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field. This is the second straight win the Panthers have collected against ranked opponents.
- The Panthers went into this matchup with strong attack and determination. In the first half, Pitt posted eight shots to the Demon Deacons two with six of those on target.
- At the 29th minute, Anna Bout put the Panthers on the board first after she sent the ball in the bottom center of the net. This was Bout's fourth goal on the season.
- The Panthers headed into the locker room with the 1-0 lead. In the first half, Pitt had the majority of the possession, holding the edge in shots (8-2), shots on goal (6-1), and corner kicks (2-0).
- At the 57th minute, Wake Forest completed their only goal of the day, tying the game up.
- The Panthers responded no more than eight minutes later when Sarah Schupanksy posted her eighth goal on the season from an assist by Landy Mertz.
- Leaving 10 minutes on the board, Samiah Phiri completed the third goal of the day for the Panthers from a couple of clean passes from Keera Melenhorst and Deborah Abiodun.
- Pitt wasn't finished yet. At the 85th minute, Ellie Coffield launched the ball at the top of the 18 straight to the back of the net, securing the fourth and final goal of the Panthers.

- Amanda West is ranked first in the ACC for shots per game (4.14) and shots on goal per game (2.21).
- Sarah Schupanksy is ranked first in the ACC for total goals (9) and total points (24), second in the conference for goals per game (1.71) and shots on goal per game (1.64).
- Samiah Phiri and Sarah Schupansky are tied for second in the conference for game-winning goals (3).
- Ashton Gordon is ranked first in the nation for penalty kicks.
