Pitt Sends 14 Student-Athletes To NCAA East Preliminary Round At Indiana

PITTSBURGH, PA – Fresh off the 2022 ACC Outdoor Championships, the Pittsburgh track & field teams are ready to make some noise at next week's NCAA East Preliminary Round meet, which will be held May 25-28 in Bloomington, IN at Haugh Track & Field Complex on the Indiana University campus.
The field of participants was announced on Thursday afternoon by the NCAA Track and Field and Cross Country Committee and the Panthers will be well represented as they had 12 student-athletes qualify in 14 total events along with one relay squad, men's 4x400m. Senior Noah Walker qualified in three separate events for the second straight season as he will appear in the javelin, discus and hammer throw in Bloomington. Both Ade Jones-Roundtree and Lonzell Feagin will compete in an individual event (400m) as well as be a part of the Panthers' 4x400m relay squad along with Cobe Wiggins and Nigel Hussey.
The Pitt distance squad will be well represented in Indiana as the men will send three 3000m steeplechasers to the regional qualifying meet after strong showings this season. Josh Higgins, school record holder in the event, leads the way with a time of 8:44.31 which ranks 13th in the East Region while Evan Addison and Jack Miller rank 14th and 24th, respectively. On the women's side, Emily Brown qualified for the 3000m steeplechase in the 48th and final position.
High jumper Greg Lauray will be making his fourth career appearance in the East Preliminary Round while senior Kollin Smith (long jump) and Lydia Bottelier (high jump) will each be making their second appearance in the meet. Breanna Phillips will be making her second appearance in the East Preliminary Round but her first in an individual event as she qualified in the 35th spot for the 400m hurdles. Phillips ran in the 4x400m relay at regionals as a freshman.
The Panthers' 4x400m quartet of Cobe Wiggins, Nigel Hussey, Jones-Roundtree and Feagin secured their spot on the regional meet after a third place finish the ACC Outdoor Championships with a time of 3:06:07, the third fastest in program history.
