Wolter Earns ACC Crown As Panthers Finish Off ACC Outdoor Championships

DURHAM, NC – Senior decathlete Felix Wolter earned the first decathlon ACC title in Pitt history as the Panthers closed out the 2022 ACC Outdoor Championships in Durham, NC. In all, the Panthers had nine All-ACC members while earning the fifth outdoor ACC title in program history.
The Pitt men finished off the weekend with 30 points as they finished in 12th place overall while the women scored 11 points and finished in 13th place.
The highlight of the weekend for the Panthers was the performance of senior decathlete Felix Wolter who was able to earn his first career ACC outdoor title. Wolter posted three first place finishes, four second place finishes, a third place finish, a fourth place finish and a fifth place finish across the grueling 10 events across two days. For the weekend, he posted one new personal record mark as he notched a javelin throw that traveled 176'8" (53.86m) to earn him a second place finish in the event.
He finished off his event with a season-best score of 7,880 which broke the facility record while also being 707 points clear of the second place finisher. His score currently ranks 10th in the NCAA as he will make his first appearance in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in the decathlon in a couple weeks. The Munich, Germany native also earned First Team All-ACC honors for the first time in his Pitt outdoor career.
THURSDAY
The best showing on the first day for the Panthers came from senior Breanna Phillips in the 400m hurdles. The Indiana native was able to post the best time of her Pitt career in the preliminary round of the event as she posted the third fastest qualifying time of 59.96 seconds. Her time is the 10th fastest in program history and qualified her for the Saturday final in the event.
In field events, Daniel Amaya made his first appearance in the hammer throw at the outdoor championship meet and he posted a strong 10th place finish with a throw of 189'5" (57.74m). In the long jump, Kollin Smith posted a jump of 24'0.75" (7.33m) to earn 10th place while Clement Campbell earned 12th place with a leap of 23'10.25" (7.27m). On the women's side, Foluke Olujide-Ajibade made her second outdoor appearance and finished in 11th place with a throw that traveled 164'1" (50.02m).
On the track, the Panthers had four season-best times in a pair of events as Crockett Schooler took home 11th place in the 400m hurdles prelims with a time of 53.00 seconds while fellow Panther Matt Wilson crossed the line in 53.79 seconds to earn 12th place. In the 200m dash, Lonzell Feagin took 13th place in the prelims in 21.12 seconds while Ade Jones-Roundtree finished in 15th place in 21.19 seconds.
FRIDAY
Day two was a much more productive day for the Panthers as the men's squad was able to score 16 points in three different events. Wolter earned 10 for his victory in the decathlon while Noah Walker and Josh Higgins each scored in their events.
Walker had a huge showing in the javelin as he was able to post a fourth place finish with a new personal record throw of 230'5" (70.24m). He posted his best throw since his freshman season on his sixth and final throw as he earned five points for the Panthers and Second Team All-ACC honors.
In the final event of the night, Higgins was able to secure a point for the Panthers in the 3000m steeplechase as he finished strong with a time of 8:46.26. Redshirt sophomore Jack Miller finished right behind Higgins in ninth place as he posted a personal record time 8:48.20, the fourth fastest time in program history.
Two Panthers were able to qualify for Saturday finals as Jones-Roundtree had the best race of his Pitt career in the 400m dash as he crossed the finish line with a personal-record time of 46.02 seconds, the third fastest qualifying time in the prelims. His time also marked the third fastest in program history in the event. Schooler earned his second trip to the ACC final in the 400m hurdles as he posted a season-best time of 53.00 seconds in the prelims, the eighth fastest time in qualifying.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, sophomore Emily Brown notched a personal-best time of 10:25.16 to earn 10th place in the talented field. Folake Olujide-Ajibade finished in 11th place in the 100m hurdles in 14.17 seconds while Kaneisha Raymond took 12th place in the same race with a personal-best time of 14.24 seconds.
SATURDAY
The Panthers had a strong championship Saturday in Durham as they were able to score points in seven different events including one podium appearance.
The Panthers' 4x400m relay capped the meet with a huge third place finish to earn Second Team All-ACC honors and six points for the team. The quartet of Cobe Wiggins, Nigel Hussey, Jones-Roundtree and Feagin crossed the finish line in 3:06.07 which marks the third fastest time in program history and earns the squad a spot in the East Preliminary round.
The women's 4x400m relay squad had their best showing of the season on Saturday night as they were able to secure five points and the fourth place finish. The quartet of Kamryn McIntosh, Caleia Johnson, Phillips and Lydia Bottelier ran a season-best time of 3:40.71 to just miss out on a podium spot.

After posting a PR in the prelims, Phillips had the best run of her career in the event on Saturday as she crossed the finish line in fourth place with a time of 58.96 seconds, the seventh fastest time in program history. She set a new PR by a whole second as she earned Second Team All-ACC honors.
Jones-Roundtree had an impressive showing in the 400m dash final as he took home fifth place and four points as he crossed the finish line in 46.21 seconds. He also earned Second Team All-ACC honors for his efforts. Senior Greg Lauray capped his weekend with Second Team All-ACC honors in the high jump as her finished in sixth place after clearing 6'10.25" (2.09m).
Pitt had a pair of athletes post eighth place finishes to earn one point on the day. Schooler made his second appearance in the final of the 110m hurdles, and he was able to post a season-best time of 14.33 seconds. In the women's high jump, Lydia Bottelier. Cleared a height of 5'8" (1.73m) to earn eighth place and one point.
