Distance Squad Leads The Way For Panthers At Duke Invitational

DURHAM, NC – The Pitt track and field teams finished up a strong weekend at the Duke Invitational down in Durham with some solid performances on the track including six top-10 all-time marks and one event victory.
The Panthers distance squad had an impressive weekend at Duke as they were able to collect four top-10 all-time marks and five PR's. Leading the way was senior Evan Addison who notched the third place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal record time of 8:44.50. His time also marked the second best in program history and the third best in the ACC so far this season.
Three Panthers were able to post personal record and top-10 times in the 5000m run as Ally Brunton cruised to a fifth place finish in the event with a time of 16:29.66, the fourth best time in program history and 10th best in the ACC so far this season. In the same race, Emily Brown posted a 10th place finish with a personal record time of 16:58.17, the 10th best time in program history. On the men's side, Sam Otis posted a massive PR as he collected the sixth place finish in 14:14.05. His time marked the sixth best in program history in the event.
The lone victory of the weekend for the Panthers came in the pole vault as senior Felix Wolter was able to clear a season-best height of 15'7" (4.75m) to secure his first win of the outdoor season. His mark currently sits as the 12th best in the ACC this season.
Senior Lonzell Feagin had another big weekend for the Panthers as this time he was able to post a big personal record time in the 100m dash. Feagin took home second in his heat and 13th overall in the talented field as he crossed the finish line in 10.63 seconds which marked the eighth fastest time in program history in the event and the fastest by a Panther since 2015.
The jump squad had another strong weekend for Pitt as senior Kollin Smith secured a third place finish in the long jump with a season-best leap of 24'4.25" (7.42m). In the high jump, junior Lydia Bottelier took fourth place as she cleared 5'7" (1.70m) while senior Greg Lauray finished in fifth place as he cleared a height of 6'8" (2.03m).
Senior Noah Walker continued his consistent outdoor campaign as he notched a fourth place finish in the discus with a season-best throw that traveled 178'1" (54.28m). He then posted an eighth place finish in the javelin with a season-best throw of 213'9" (65.15m). The throw marked the eighth best in the ACC this season while fellow senior Cobe Wiggins posted a personal record throw that traveled 194' (59.13m) to earn 12th place. In the women's shot put, Abena Atuobi notched the fifth place finish with a season-best heave of 49'10" (15.19m).
The Panthers 4x100m relay squad of Clement Campbell, Feagin, Smith and Ade Jones-Roundtree had a great showing as they finished in fifth place with a season-best time of 41.02 seconds. The time marked the sixth fastest this season in the ACC. On the women's side, the quartet of Kaneisha Raymond, Caleia Johnson, Ilse Steigenga and Elke van der Westhuizen posted an eighth place finish in 47.22 seconds, the eighth fastest in the ACC so far this season.
Elsewhere on the track, sophomore Folake Olujide-Ajibade secured a ninth place finish in the 100m hurdles with a personal record time of 14.07 seconds while Josh Higgins had a season-best time of 3:48.37 and Finn Walsh had a time of 3:48.51 in the 1500m run. Crockett Schooler notched a season-best time of 14.39 seconds in the 110m hurdles to earn the eighth place finish while Smith came in ninth in 14.68 seconds.
Freshman Caleia Johnson had another solid weekend on the track as she collected an 11th place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.19 seconds and a 12th place finish in 12.01 seconds.
