
Panthers Break Beam Record for Third Time on Senior Night

PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh (10-8, 4-3 EAGL) gymnastics team made history, yet again, breaking the beam record for the third time this season with a 49.350 in a dual meet with No. 24 Towson Sunday afternoon at the Fitzgerald Field House.
Freshman Sidney Washington dominated the night, winning the all-around with a career-high 39.475, while recording a new career-high on beam with a 9.875 and tying her career-highs on bars (9.850) and floor (9.900).
The Panthers won four of the five individual titles (UB: Katie Chamberlain (9.875), BB: Hallie Copperwheat, Jordyn Ewing, Lauren Beckwith, Washington (8.975), FX: Washington (9.900), AA: Washington 39.475), but fell short 196.100-195.875 against the Tigers.
VAULT
The first rotation was highlighted by Washington who recorded a team-high 9.850, earning second overall. Senior Olivia Miller led off the Panthers with a 9.775, followed by Copperwheat's 9.800 and Chamberlain's 9.825. The Panthers combined for a team score of 48.300 to kick off the meet.
BARS
Chamberlain earned her second individual title on bars of the season with a team-high 9.875. Washington continued to shine in her pursuit of the all-around, tying her career-high 9.850 to earn second overall. Ewing recorded a 9.825 and Copperwheat scored a 9.800. The team's event score of 49.100 gave the Panthers a running score of 97.400 at the halfway mark.
BEAM
The team's momentum reached its peak in the third rotation as the team broke the beam record for the third time this season with a 49.350. Four Panthers earned a 9.875 –Beckwith, Copperwheat, Ewing, and Washington – all tying for the individual title in the event. In addition, Chamberlain recorded a 9.850 in the lead-off spot and senior Kiley Robatin scored a 9.525.
FLOOR
The Panthers rounded out the night with four scores over the 9.800 threshold, with Washington leading the team, tying her career-high of 9.900. Ewing tied her career-high 9.875, Miller tied her season-high with a 9.825, and junior Erin Hutchison earned a 9.800. Beckwith and Copperwheat both concluded the night with 9.725s to earn the second highest team score of the night, 49.125.
