
Panthers Travel to Ohio State for Final Meet of Regular Season

PITTSBURGH, Pa.—The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (10-8, 4-3 EAGL) will compete in its final meet of the regular season, traveling to No. 16 Ohio State (6-3, 4-1 Big Ten) for a tri-meet with No. 10 California (6-2, 5-2 PAC-12) Friday, March 11 at 7 p.m. at the Covelli Center.

LAST TIME OUT
- The team made history, yet again, breaking the beam record for the third time this season with a 49.350 in last Sunday's dual meet with No. 24 Towson at the Fitzgerald Field House.
- Freshman Sidney Washington dominated the night, winning the all-around with a career-high 39.475, while recording a new career-high on beam with a 9.875 and tying her career-highs on bars (9.850) and floor (9.900).
- The Panthers won four of the five individual titles (UB: Katie Chamberlain (9.875), BB: Hallie Copperwheat, Jordyn Ewing, Lauren Beckwith, Washington (8.975), FX: Washington (9.900), AA: Washington 39.475), but fell short 196.100-195.875 against the Tigers.
WASHINGTON EARNS THIRD EAGL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR
- For the second week in a row and the third time this season, Washington was named EAGL Rookie of the Week, announced Wednesday by the conference.
- In Sunday's dual meet against the No. 24 Towson Tigers, Washington earned her second all-around individual title of the season with a career-high 39.475.
- The Ann Arbor, Mich. native recorded a new career-high on beam (9.875) and tied her career-best scores on bars (9.850) and floor (9.900). Washington's efforts on beam assisted in the Panthers breaking the program beam record for the third time this season with a team score of 49.350.
- Washington took home three individual titles (T-BB: 9.875, FX: 9.900, AA: 39.475) on the night.
- She is the third gymnast in program history to earn the Rookie of the Week honor at least three times, joining Haley Brechwald (2016) and Haley Bodenheimer (2012) in the achievement.
SCOUTING THE NO. 16 BUCKEYES
- The No. 16 Ohio State Buckeyes recorded the second-best team score in program history (197.525), placing first in a tri-meet with Kent State and Eastern Michigan last Sunday.
- Three Buckeyes earned career-highs on floor, combining for a season-high 49.500 team score in the event.
- The Buckeyes have consistently been in the Top 25 of the Road to Nationals rankings, currently sitting at No. 16 for the second time this season, the first during Week 7.
- Friday's meet will be the 27th meeting between Ohio State and Pitt in program history. OSU currently holds an 1-11 lead in the series when competing in Columbus.
SCOUTING THE NO. 10 GOLDEN BEARS
- Despite the loss to No. 17 UCLA last Sunday, 198.050-197.200, the No. 10 Cal Golden Bears claimed the PAC-12 Title with a 5-2 record. This is the first regular season or PAC-12 Championship title in program history.
- Cal currently sits at No. 10, dropping from the No. 8 spot in Week 8. The team has consistently been in the Top 11 throughout the 2022 season.
- Friday will mark only the second meeting between Pitt and Cal. Their first and only face off was almost 16 years ago to the day, March 10, 2006, where the Golden Bears walked away victorious with a final score of 191.000-188.700.
