PITTSBURGH—The University of Pittsburgh swimming and diving teams combined to post an impressive win over the Villanova Wildcats Thursday afternoon at Trees Pool. The women tallied 176.50 points over Villanova's 121.50, while the men recorded 229 over the Wildcats' 68.
"It felt great to race again," said head coach John Hargis. "The kids hadn't raced in a true dual meet since the fall semester, so being able to get back to it after a few cancellations was good. We have a lot of things to do over these next few weeks to get ready for ACCs, but I feel like we are in a good spot with both teams."
Senior Madison Nalls had an impressive night, recording two first-place finishes in the 100 Free (51.62) and the 200 Free (1:51.83). Junior Daisy Anderson touched the wall at 2:00.27, the fastest time this season, in the women's 200 Fly to earn her the win. Freshman Avery McFaddin recorded her first collegiate win in the 100 Fly with a time of 56.90.
For the men, junior Flynn Crisci (50 Free – 20.68, 100 Free – 45.61) and sophomore Marcin Goraj (200 Free – 1:40.18, 200 Back – 1:49.28) both earned two first-place finishes, while also assisting in at least one winning relay. Freshman Guy Frimis, who just joined the Panthers this semester, celebrated his first collegiate win in the 500 Free (4:38.97).
"I was really pleased with how we did as a team," said head diving coach Katie Kasprzak. "We got a few more Zone Cuts and saw their confidence coming up as the meet progressed. It's always hard to get back into it after the break, so it was great to see them start competing again. Now, we have a few weeks to sharpen everything up and focus on ACCs and later NCAAs."
The men's and women's diving teams dominated against the Wildcats, earning a 1-2-3 finish in all four events. Junior diver Dylan Reed went two-for-two for the men, winning the 3M with a new personal best of 391.35, as well as the 1M with a 364.50. Freshman Cameron Cash secured second place in the men's 3M with a new personal best of 346.05.
On the women's side, senior Serena Buchwald and sophomore Claire McDaniels earned their first wins of the season. Buchwald topped the 3M with a score of 276.38, while McDaniels concluded the 1M victorious with a 274.50.
