
Pitt Closes Weekend at World Aquatics Swimming World Cup

WESTMONT, IL. — Several members of the Pitt swimming team returned from a successful weekend at the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup in Illinois, competing against some of the top swimmers in the world.
The Panthers posted five top-12 finishes, with three individuals setting new personal bests.
Julian Koch finished the weekend with a ninth-place finish in the men's 100-meter butterfly, clocking a personal-best time of 51.14 seconds. He also placed 11th in the 100-meter freestyle with another personal best of 47.10, competing alongside Olympic and world champions Jack Alexy and Noe Ponti.
Sydney Gring turned in a 13th-place finish in the women's 100-meter butterfly (58.85) and placed 14th in the 50-meter butterfly with a time of 26.80.
In the women's 50-meter backstroke, Claire Jansen led the Panthers with an 11th-place finish (26.88), followed by Gring in 17th. The pair competed against world record holders and Olympic champions Regan Smith and Kaylee McKeown.
Jansen added another top-12 result with an 12th-place finish in the 200-meter backstroke (2:06.23) and later placed 15th in the 100-meter backstroke (58.77).
Alan Vergine rounded out Pitt's top performances with a time of 1:54.99 in the 200-meter butterfly, earning ninth place and a new personal best. James Allison also ended the weekend with new personal bests in his respective events.
Up Next
The Panthers return home to Trees Pool Oct. 24–25 to host Penn State. Diving events will take place on Friday, followed by swimming on Saturday.
