Softball Completes Fall Games Against Seton Hill

PITTSBURGH – The Panther softball team came out victorious in their first two games of the fall season Sunday afternoon at Vartabedian Field.
Pitt won, 8-3, in game one and took game two 14-1.
Game One
The Panther bats popped early as they hit three home runs in total. Freshman Haylie Brunson led off the second inning with a solo shot in her first at-bat, while Junior EC Taylor and sophomore Cami Compson hit a two-run homer and solo shot, respectively.
Redshirt freshman Dani Drogemuller struck out seven batters and kept the Griffins hitless through three innings. Freshman Kendall Brown allowed two hits and no runs in two innings in her first appearance in the circle.
Game Two
The hot bats carried over into the second game as Pitt totaled 17 hits. Junior Kayla Lane, freshman Ana Hernandez and redshirt freshman Jack Busch each homered, totaling Pitt's home run count to six in both games combined.
Lane put the Panthers on top 2-1 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the second while Taylor, senior Yvonne Whaley, Compson, junior Bailey Drapola and senior Sarah Seamans all singled in the bottom of the third to give Pitt a 5-1 after three.
Drogemuller pitched one inning in the circle, striking out all three batters she faced for 10 total K's on the day. Last year, Drogemuller recorded two games with 10 strikeouts, becoming the eighth pitcher in program history with multiple 10+ strikeout games. Brown pitched 1.1 innings, retiring all four batters she faced.
The Panthers are back in action Saturday, Oct. 2 with a triple-header beginning at 10 a.m. Pitt will play Fairmont State at 10 a.m. followed by a neutral site game between Fairmont State and Robert Morris at 12:30 p.m. Pitt concludes the day with a 3 p.m. contest against Robert Morris.
Admission to Vartabedian Field is free for all ages.
