No. 10 Pitt Faces No. 6 North Carolina and No. 3 NC State in ACC Tournament Pool Play

CHARLOTTE – No. 10 seed Pitt baseball (22-19) squares off against No. 6 North Carolina Tuesday at 7 p.m. and No. 3 NC State Thursday at 7 p.m for its two Pool C games in the ACC Tournament at Truist Field in Charlotte, N.C. The winner of the pool plays in the second semifinal game Saturday at 5 p.m. with the championship Sunday at noon.

- The semifinal games are on ACC Network and the championship airs on ESPN2.

- Pitt took two of three games against the Tar Heels with a doubleheader sweep (6-2 and 3-2) Saturday, April 17 that extended its winning-streak (seven) games and program record ACC series victories (five) and overall ACC wins.
- Both Pitt starting pitchers picked up wins. Mitch Myers went six innings in game one with two runs, six hits, two walks and three strikeouts for the win, and Matt Gilbertson threw seven innings with two runs, six hits, no walks and eight strikeouts to claim the victory.
- Nico Popa hit a two-run homer in the first inning of game one and never trailed.
- All five runs of game two came in the third inning. Kyle Hess hit an RBI- double to left field that was followed by a two-run double from David Yanni.
THIS YEAR VS. THE WOLFPACK
- NC State swept Pitt in Pittsburgh two weeks ago.
- The first two games were close games, as NC State scored unanswered runs in the fifth and seventh innings to win the opener 3-2 and three runs in the ninth inning for a 9-7 series-clinching win.
- The Wolfpack hit five homers in the 10-3 win Sunday.
ALL-TIME SERIES
- North Carolina has the slight edge (12-10) in the all-time series with all 22 meetings coming as league foes.
- Pitt has won five of the last seven games starting with its 5-4 win in the ACC Tournament in 2018.
- NC State leads the all-time series 9-1 and have swept all three ACC series.
