No. 17 Pitt Sweeps No. 15 Miami with 12-5 Win

PITTSBURGH –No. 17 Pitt baseball (17-10, 12-9) scored 11-straight runs in a 12-5 victory Sunday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field to get a series sweep of No. 15 Miami (17-11, 10-10). The Panthers set a school-record for ACC wins with five more league series still to be played.
Pitt became just the second ACC team to sweep Miami and Florida State in the same season (Clemson in 2006). The Panthers extended their program record of wins (nine) and sweeps (two) against ranked ACC teams.
The Hurricanes got the game's initial lead with a one-out RBI-single followed by a three-run homer in the second inning.
The Panthers tied it up in the fourth inning. With Ramon Padilla on base with a fielder's choice, Jordan Anderson doubled down the left field line with two outs. Sky Duff knocked in both Padilla and Anderson on a single to right field. Nico Popa followed with a two-run homer to right field, his seventh of the year.
Washington, Jr. added to the Panthers' lead with a leadoff homer in the eighth inning, his fourth of the year.
The Panthers continue home play with Lipscomb Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Duff came home on a Kyle Hess sac fly to centerfield. The bases were loaded again after Ron Washington, Jr. reached base on a fielding error by the third baseman and David Yanni walked. Bryce Hulett cleared the bases with a grand slam to right field, his second homer of the season.We told ya it was early ??

- Starting pitcher Stephen Hansen went 4.2 innings with four runs, six hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
- Corey Sawyer (1-0) picked up his first win as a Panther in 2.2 innings of relief, allowing just one run, three hits and one walk with three strikeouts.
- Chase Smith threw 1.2 scoreless innings of relief with one hit and two walks.
- Pitt produced all but three runs with two outs, going 6-15 at the plate.
- The Panthers were an even better 5-9 (.556) with runners in scoring position.
- Pitt finished with 15 hits with five players notching multiple hits.
- Popa led with a game-high four, and Washington, Jr. had three.
