
No. 17 Pitt Beats Lipscomb 9-6 at Home

Sky Duff led off the first inning with a single to right field, and Nico Popa drew a walk. Hess knocked in Duff with a double to right center, and Popa came home on a sac fly to left field from Ron Washington, Jr. Hess then scored on a wild pitch. David Yanni drew a walk and scored from first base on Bryce Hulett's double to left center.

After the Bisons cut their deficit to one in the fourth, the Panthers responded with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning. Jordan Anderson led off with a single through the left side and stole second base. Popa singled through the left side with one out and also stole second base. Both would score on Hess' triple to centerfield.

Pitt recorded the game's last three runs in the sixth inning. Anderson led off with a double to left field and was knocked in on a Duff RBI-single through the left side. After Popa singled through the left side, Hess brought home Duff on a single through the right side. With one out, Anderson and Hess stole third and second base. Anderson came home for the last run on an RBI-groundout from Yanni.
The Panthers return to ACC play at home with North Carolina beginning Friday at 6 p.m.
NOTES
- Pitt improved to 6-1 in nonconference games this season.
- Starting pitcher Chris Gomez went four innings with three runs, six hits, no walks and three strikeouts.
- C.J. McKennitt (1-0) picked up his first win as a Panther as the most effective relief pitcher: 2.2 innings with no runs and hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
- David Ferguson threw an inning of scoreless relief with one walk and two strikeouts.
- The Panthers' first-third batters in the lineup (Duff, Popa and Hess) combined to go 7-14 with five RBIs and six runs.
- Anderson was the fourth Panther to have multiple hits, going 2-4 with two runs.
- Pitt went 7-18 (.389) with runners on base.
