Panthers Set for Conference Play at Georgia Tech

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh softball team is set for four games in three days against conference foe Georgia Tech starting Friday, Mar. 12 through Sunday, Mar. 14.

- Pitt heads to Atlanta, Ga., to take on Georgia Tech for four conference games in three days.
- The Panthers concluded early season non-conference play Saturday in Boca Raton. Pitt is 5-5 in non-conference action and has one remaining out of league game Tuesday, April 20 at home against Akron.
- The Panthers and Yellow Jackets both look to improve their conference records, as each team enters the weekend with one league win.
- Game one is scheduled for 4 PM Friday afternoon.
- Saturday consists of a double-header beginning at 2 PM, followed by a 5 PM first pitch.
- Pitt and Georgia Tech round out action Sunday afternoon at 12 PM.
- All games will be broadcast on ACCNX.
- Pitt competed in the FAU Parents Weekend Tournament March 4-6, going 2-2 with wins over FAU and FIU.
- Junior Katlyn Pavlick led all batters with a .545 batting average, going 6-for-11 with three doubles, five RBI, two runs and a .818 slugging percentage.
- Junior Abby Edwards continued her dominance in the circle, pitching a complete game, one run ballgame against FIU. Edwards allowed six hits, one earned and struck out six for her second-straight complete game victory.
- Sophomore EC Taylor has shown her speed and offensive abilities early this season.
- Taylor leads the team in hits (15), is tied for second in doubles (3), tied for third in runs (8) and leads the ACC in stolen bases with 15. Her stolen base count is tied for second in the nation and her 1.00 stolen bases per game is tied for fifth in the country.
- Her four stolen bases Sunday, Feb. 21 against Virginia were the most in a single-game in school history, surpassing the previous mark of three most recently held by Reba Tutt (2011).
- Taylor stole three bases against Toledo Feb. 27, becoming the first Panther since Reba Tutt (2011) to have three stolen bags in a game.
- Taylor had four hits, a double, four RBI and three stolen bases at the FAU Parent's Weekend Tournament in Boca Raton, Fla.
- Taylor is batting .278 with a .316 on-base percentage on the season.
- Freshman Dani Drogemuller is quickly climbing the strikeout ranks in the ACC, as she recorded 10 K's for the second time this season at FAU March 4.
- Drogemuller pitched a complete game in the Panthers' 9-4 win against FAU, allowing four earned on eight hits and fanning 10 batters, including two in the bottom of the seventh.
- Drogemuller threw a gem Friday, Feb. 26 against Mercer, throwing a complete-game 10 strikeout performance in the Panthers' 7-2 victory over the Bears.
- She allowed only three hits and two runs, both of which were unearned. She finished the weekend with 11 strikeouts, four hits, zero earned runs in 11.1 innings pitched.
- Drogemuller is 3-3 on the year and has 35 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched.
- Junior Sarah Seamans registered a .923 slugging percentage last weekend in Boca Raton, hitting three homeruns and tallying five RBI.
- Seamans' five homers are tied for second in the ACC. She has hit a homer in three of her last four games.
- Seamans entered the season with one career homerun - a grand slam at Clemson - and now has six for her career.
- Georgia Tech leads the all-time series, 12-10, with the last meeting an 18-9 Yellow Jacket win April 13, 2019.
- The Yellow Jackets have won the last three outings. Pitt's last win was a 6-2 victory at home April 14, 2018.
- Friday's meeting will be the 23rd in school history, while Sunday's finale will be the 26th of the series.
- Georgia Tech enters the series with a 6-13 overall record and 1-9 conference mark. They are 5-10 in Atlanta for the season.
- The Yellow Jackets boast a .283 batting average, ranking fourth in the ACC. Georgia Tech has totaled 26 doubles this season, good for second in the conference and 20th in the nation.
- Georgia Tech is a disciplined team at the plate, ranking first in the ACC and ninth in the country in walks (69). They are also one of three teams in the nation to turn a triple play, joining Wisconsin and Mississippi Valley to turn three.
- Junior Tricia Awald is one of the conference's best hitters through the first month of the season, batting .436 (5th in ACC) with 24 hits (1st), six homeruns (first), 13 runs (T-7th), 16 RBI (T-2nd), 45 total bases (2nd) and a .544 on-base percentage (3rd). She also has a .818 slugging percentage (7th in ACC) and has drawn nine walks this year.
- Freshman Blake Neleman leads the Yellow Jackets in the circle, posting a 3-3 record in eight appearances, leading the team in strikeouts (38) and throwing two shutouts, good for third in the ACC and 23rd nationally. She has a 4.87 ERA with three complete games thrown and a .225 opposing batting average.
- Pitt concludes its road trip with nationally ranked Virginia Tech with four games starting Friday, Mar. 19 at 6 PM.
- The Panthers play two games Saturday (1 PM/3 PM) followed by one game Sunday at 12 PM.
- All games will be broadcast on the ACCNX.
