Pitt Gymnastics to Host Second Consecutive Home Meet
PITTSBURGH – Pitt gymnastics (0-2, 0-1 EAGL) is set for a tri-meet against East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) foes NC State (3-0, 2-0 EAGL) and Towson (2-2, 2-1 EAGL) Sunday at 4 p.m. ET at Fitzgerald Field House.

- Due to COVID-19 protocols set by the Pennsylvania Governor's Office, Pitt will not be permitted to host fans at the Fitzgerald Field House.
STEM APPRECIATION MEET
- Following its Pride-themed home opener (Jan. 24), Pitt gymnastics announced a theme for its second home meet: STEM Appreciation – empowering women in the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
- Throughout the week leading up to the meet, the Panthers engaged fans on social media with contests such as #TriviaTuesday as well as an enter-to-win giveaway for a virtual STEM workshop for girls in 3rd-5th grade. Pitt also highlighted its gymnastics alumnae currently working in STEM fields.
- Eight Panthers are in STEM majors at Pitt, including: Jordan Ceccarini (psychology), Katie Chamberlain (psychology), Katrina Coca (health rehab sciences), Rebekah Jenkins (computational biology), Caitlyn Kline (biological sciences), Faith Lerro (biological sciences), Olivia Miller (rehabilitation science) and Kiley Robatin (rehabilitation science).
CHAMBERLAIN LEADS ON BARS
- Pitt junior Katie Chamberlain leads the EAGL with an average of 9.887 on uneven bars, ranked No. 14 nationally by RoadToNationals.com.
- Lat time out, Chamberlain earned a career-high 9.900 on bars, marking a team-high score for the season in any event.
LEO OF THE WEEK
- College Gym News named Pitt's home-opening leotard as the nation's top-ranked leo of the week, announced Jan. 27.
- Pitt debuted a new leo for the Pride meet, which the Panthers accessorized with rainbow face coverings, temporary tattoos and ribbons.
LAST TIME OUT
- Junior Katie Chamberlain and sophomore Ciara Ward each picked up event titles for Pitt at the Panthers' home opener Sunday afternoon against No. 23 Kent State at Fitzgerald Field House.
- The Golden Flashes earned the team win by a score of 194.600-191.600.
- Chamberlain earned her second consecutive title on bars with a career-best 9.900. The score ties for eighth place all-time in the Pitt gymnastics record book. She is the first Panther to earn a 9.900 or better on bars since Michaela Burton in 2020.
- Ward earned her first event title of the year with a 9.800 on vault, marking a season-high score for the sophomore.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
- NC State enters Sunday's meet with a 3-0 overall record and 3-0 record in the EAGL.
- Sophomore Emily Shepard earned EAGL Gymnast of the Week honors for the second consecutive week, and freshman Madison Benson was been named EAGL Rookie of the Week, as announced Tuesday.
- NC State lead the EAGL on bars and floor, averaging 48.988 and 49.025, respectively.
- Last time out, the Wolfpack defeated both Towson (194.225) and Temple (193.600), scoring a 194.600.
- Pitt and NC State faced off to open the 2021 season, where the Wolfpack came away with a win, 194.925-192.850, in Raleigh, N.C.
- The Wolfpack owns a 41-9 lead in the all-time series. The programs are tied, 6-6 when competing in Pittsburgh.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
- Last time out, Towson (2-2, 2-1 EAGL) came in second in a home tri-meet, where the Tigers scored a 194.225. NC State won the meet with a 194.925, and Temple came in third at 193.600.
- Towson leads the EAGL with a 48.800 average on vault. The Tigers are second on floor, averaging 48.975.
- Sunday will be the 45th meeting between Pitt and Towson, with the Tigers leading the all-time series 26-18. Pitt has a 7-4 advantage when competing in Pittsburgh.
UP NEXT
- The Panthers will return to Raleigh, N.C., for the second time this season for a quad meet at NC State with Towson and North Carolina, Saturday, Feb. 6, at 6 p.m. ET.
