Two Panthers Win Individual Titles in First Home Meet
PITTSBURGH – Junior Katie Chamberlain and sophomore Ciara Ward each picked up event titles for the Pitt gymnastics team (0-2, 0-1 EAGL) at the Panthers' home opener Sunday afternoon against No. 23 Kent State (2-0, 1-0 MAC) at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Golden Flashes earned the team win by a score of 194.600-191.600.
Chamberlain earned her second consecutive title on bars with a career-best 9.900. The score ties for eighth place all-time in the Pitt gymnastics record book. She is the first Panther to earn a 9.900 or better on bars since Michaela Burton in 2020.
Ward earned her first event title of the year with a 9.800 on vault, marking a season-high score for the sophomore.
VAULT
Ward led the way for Pitt with a season-high 9.800 in the Panthers' first event. Three more Panthers earned season-high scores: Olivia Miller with a 9.775, Emily Liszewski with a 9.775, and Katrina Coca making her event debut with a 9.375. Pitt earned its highest event score in the first rotation with a 48.350 on vault.
BARS
Chamberlain's 9.900 was the highlight of the rotation, earning a career high as well as a team high for the season. Coca followed with a 9.825, while Miller posted a season high with a 9.800. Sophomore Lauren Beckwith earned a season-best score on bars with a 9.500. In total, Pitt recorded a 48.175 on bars to earn a 96.525 through two rotations.
BEAM
For the second consecutive meet, Beckwith anchored the Panther's beam lineup and paced the team with a 9.825. Chamberlain recorded a 9.700 in her event debut. Senior Jordan Ceccarini picked up a season-best score with a 9.675. Junior Kiley Robatin posted a 9.600 to round out the top scores as Pitt was plagued with two falls in the rotation. The Panthers recorded a 47.650 as a team to make its three-event score 144.175.
FLOOR
Miller led the Panthers in the floor exercise with a season-high 9.800. Beckwith followed with a 9.675, while freshman Trinity Macy recorded a career-high 9.500 in just her second appearance in the event. Pitt completed the meet with a 47.425 in the rotation.
UP NEXT
Pitt will stay at home, hosting EAGL foes NC State and Towson in a tri-meet Sunday, Jan. 31, at 4 p.m. on ESPN3. Due to COVID-19 protocols set by the Pennsylvania Governor's Office, Pitt will not be permitted to host fans at the Fitzgerald Field House.
