PITTSBURGH – The Pitt women's basketball team announced the addition of Sandrine Clesca to their 2020 class Friday afternoon. The addition of Clesca rounds out Coach Lance White's second highly regarded recruiting class.
Clesca, a 5-9 guard out of Laval, Quebec, Canada will be joining Pitt after spending her senior season of high school in North Carolina at Winston-Salem Christian School. Prior to playing at Winston-Salem Christian School, Clesca played high school basketball in Quebec at St. Laurent.
"The addition of Sandrine is one that we are extremely excited about," stated head coach Lance White. "She is one of the top players to come out of Canada this year, and we think Sandrine can grow into a really special player. She is an athletic point guard who has an ability to not only score and attack the rim, but also understands how to create for others."
The four-star Canadian guard wrapped up her impressive senior season at Winston-Salem Christian School by leading her squad to the Independent School national championship as they posted an impressive record of 28-2. Her team finished the season ranked No. 25 nationally while also earning the No. 1 ranking in the state of North Carolina. The explosive point guard earned a 2020 Biosteel All-Canadian Game nomination after also earning the recognition following her strong 2019 season.
Prior to her time in North Carolina, the talented guard was invited to the U17 Canada Women's National Team camp while also being a two-time St. Laurent Team MVP. She also was an All-Star Team member of the RSEQ League and a member of the Quebec Provincial Team during her impressive sophomore campaign. As a freshman in Quebec, Clesca was named MVP of the RSEQ League while leading her squad to the RSEQ League championship.
Clesca will join a strong six-player 2020 recruiting class for the Panthers that features four freshmen and a pair of transfer student-athletes. The incoming class for Pitt features New Mexico transfer Jayla Everett, Marquette transfer Destiny Strother, four-star forward Tracey Hueston (No. 73 recruit in the 2020 class by ESPN), Liatu King from Bishop McNamara and Taisha Exanor from Dawson College in Canada.
