Pitt Falls on the Road at Mississippi State

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Pitt women's basketball fell on the road Thursday night, dropping a 79–44 decision to Mississippi State inside Humphrey Coliseum.
Carla Viegas provided a bright spot for the Panthers with a team-high 15 points, all coming in the fourth quarter as the junior knocked down five three-pointers on 5-of-7 shooting from deep. Viegas extended her streak of multiple three-point field goals to nine games. Mikayla Johnson added 10 points and six rebounds, while Fatima Diakhate finished with eight points and four boards.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Mississippi State controlled the game early, using a 20–8 first quarter and a 22–6 second frame to take a 42–14 lead into halftime. The Bulldogs were led by Destiney McPhaul with 22 points and Madison Francis, the USBWA National Freshman of the Week, who contributed 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
Pitt outscored the Bulldogs 16–9 in the final period behind Viegas' shooting surge. The Panthers finished with 22 bench points and grabbed 11 offensive rebounds but shot 22% from the floor against the Bulldogs' length and pressure.
UP NEXT
With the loss, Pitt moves to 6–5 on the season and will open ACC play on Dec. 14 at Clemson.
