MIAMI, Fla. – Pitt baseball (10-5, 0-3 ACC) dropped the series finale 14-2 to No. 6 Miami (11-4, 3-0) Sunday afternoon at Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field.
The Panthers got on the board first in the second inning. With two outs, Samuel Frontino and Bryce Hulett both singled. Jordan Anderson followed with his own single up the middle to knock in Frontino.
Pitt doubled its lead in the next inning. Nico Popa led off with a walk and scored on a throwing error by the right field from a single by Kyle Hess.
The Hurricanes took the lead in the bottom of the inning. The first run came on an RBI-single up the middle, and the next two resulted from an RBI-double to left field and a throwing error that allowed the hitter to score.
Miami added to their lead with a bases-loaded RBI walk in the fourth inning.
The Hurricanes padded their lead in their last two trips to the plate. In the seventh inning, they had a two-run single and a run off a fielding error and followed with seven more runs in the eighth.
NEWS AND NOTES
HEAD COACH MIKE BELL'S TAKE
"Really like the way our guys came out and took a lead early today after a couple of close loses on Friday and Saturday," said Pitt head coach Mike Bell. "We had some great at-bats and put some pressure on them right from the get-go. We've got to continue to find those shutdown innings after you score to keep the momentum on your side. Obviously the bullpen got away from us in the 7th and 8th innings. Something we will have to tighten up in order to finish off games.
