PITTSBURGH, Pa. – Pitt baseball (10-2) had its eight-game winning streak snapped in a 7-5 loss to Youngstown State (5-5) in its home-opener Wednesday afternoon at Charles L. Cost Field. Tied at 5-5 entering the ninth inning, the Penguins won on an RBI-double.

Youngstown State took the lead on its first trip the plate. The leadoff batter drew a walk, stole two bases and scored on a wild pitch on a strikeout. Starting pitcher Chris Cappas recorded four strikeouts in the frame.

The Penguins added two runs in the fifth inning. A fielding error following a strikeout allowed the first baserunner to score, and an RBI-groundout followed.

Youngstown State got another pair of runs in the next inning on an RBI-single and squeeze bunt.

The Panthers cut their deficit to two in the bottom of the inning. Sky Duff, David Yanni and Ron Washington Jr. all drew walks. With one out, Kyle Hess doubled to right field to bring home Duff and Yanni. Samuel Frontino knocked in Washington Jr. afterwards on a sac fly to left field.

Pitt tied it up in the eighth inning. Yanni led off with a bunt single and advanced to second base on a groundout by Washington Jr. After Frontino walked, two wild pitches allowed Yanni to score. The tying run came on a balk.
