Pitt Track & Field Heads To Notre Dame This Weekend

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh track and field teams will hit the road this weekend for South Bend, IN as they will compete in the Meyo Invitational, hosted by Notre Dame, at the Loftus Sports Center. The two-day meet will open up on Friday and run through Saturday afternoon.

- The meet will begin on Friday at 4:00 pm with the women's long jump and weight throw and conclude on Friday night at 8:50 pm with the men's 600m run.
- On Saturday, the meet will begin at 9:45 am with the women's 60m hurdles semifinals and conclude at 4:05 pm with the men's 4x400m relay.
- The Panthers competed in the Penn State National Invitational and posted four victories, three individual and one relay, to go along with a new school record run.
- Sophomore Eddita Pessima was the star of the weekend for the Panthers as she earned an impressive victory in the 60m hurdles. The sophomore's personal record run also shattered a six-year old school record in the event as she crossed the finish line in 8.23 seconds.
- Shyheim Wright continued to dominate in the 60m hurdles as he won the event for the third straight week after notching a new personal record of 7.67 seconds, the second fastest run in program history in the event.
- In the long jump, Taylor Middleton posted a season-best leap of 19'10.75" to collect the win in the event.
- The men's distance medley relay squad of Josh Higgins, Cobe Wiggins, Drew Glick and Nick Wolk beat out a talented field by nearly four seconds as they crossed the finish line in 9:51.86, the fourth fastest time in program history in the event.
- The Pittsburgh men currently have 10 student-athletes who rank inside the top-10 in the ACC in their respective events.
- Leading the way for the men is senior Shyheim Wright who currently ranks third in the ACC and fifth in the NCAA in the 60m hurdles.
- The Panthers have three athletes ranked second in the ACC in their respective events, Lonzell Feagin (400m), Drew Glick (800m) and Nick Wolk (5000m). Wolk is also currently ranked sixth in the 3000m and eighth in the mile in the ACC.
- Greg Lauray (high jump) and Noah Walker (weight throw) each rank third in the ACC so far this season.
- The men are also ranked inside the top-10 in the ACC in two relays, distance medley relay (fourth) and the 4x400m relay (seventh).
- On the women's side, Pitt is ranked inside the top-10 in the ACC in nine different events.
- Leading the way on the women's side is sophomore Eddita Pessima who ranks second in the ACC and 18th in the NCAA in the 60m hurdles.
- Junior Nikki Scherer is ranked inside the top-10 in the ACC in two events, 400m (fourth) and 200m (tenth).
- Taylor Middleton currently ranks fourth in the ACC in the long jump while Sydni Townsend ranks 10th in the 400m, Jordan Fields ranks 10th in the triple jump and Lydia Bottelier ranks 10th in the high jump.
- The women's 4x400m relay ranks fifth while the distance medley relay quartet ranks eighth in the ACC so far this season.
- Pitt will send some athletes to the Husky Classic in Seattle, WA on Feb. 14-15 and will also send some athletes to the Doug Raymond Invitational hosted by Kent State on Saturday, Feb. 15.
