SOUTH BEND, IN – Junior Greg Lauray provided the best moment of the weekend for the Pitt track & field squad as he broke the school record in the high jump on Friday night as the Panthers concluded the Meyo Invitational hosted by Notre Dame. Lauray's school record leap cleared 7'3.75" (2.23m), breaking his own school record he set last season.
The highlight of the weekend came from Lauray as he posted a school record high jump to claim a share of the victory. The junior broke his own school record as he cleared a height of 7'3.75" (2.23m), the best mark in the ACC this season and the seventh best in the NCAA.
Lauray wasn't the only Pitt high jumper with a strong finish at the Meyo Invitational as freshman Lydia Bottelier also posted a personal record leap to claim fifth place in the women's high jump. Bottelier cleared a height of 5'6.50" (1.69m), the eighth best leap in program history and 11th in the ACC this season.
The Pitt hurdlers continued their strong indoor season at Notre Dame this weekend led by sophomore Eddita Pessima who took home a second place finish in the 60m hurdles finals after coming across the line in 8.29 seconds, just .02 seconds behind the winner from Notre Dame. Fellow Panther Aysha Muhammad had her season-best run in the 60m hurdles semifinals, 8.55 seconds, to qualify for the finals. In the finals, Muhammad took home eighth place, crossing the line in 8.63 seconds. On the men's side, Shyheim Wright qualified for the finals in the 60m hurdles with a time of 7.98 seconds but didn't run in the finals of the event.
Nikki Scherer had another strong weekend on the track for the Panthers as she was able to collect a second place finish in the 400m championship race, going sub-54 seconds for the first time in her career. She crossed the finish line in 53.80 seconds, the fifth fastest time in program history and fourth fastest time in the ACC this season. She also took home sixth place in the 200m dash with a time of 24.34 seconds.
In the 60m dash, the Panthers had a pair of runners qualify for the semifinals after season-best runs in the prelims. Jaylyn Aminu posted a personal record time of 7.54 seconds to qualify in third overall while Genaya Johnson qualified in 13th place with a personal record time of 7.62 seconds. Both Aminu and Johnson narrowly missed out on qualifying for the finals with strong semifinal runs.
