Panthers Fall Short in First Road Meet
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Seniors Michaela Burton and Alecia Petrikis earned individual wins for the Pitt gymnastics team (0-3, 0-2 EAGL), however, the Panthers fell short in their first road meet of the season at North Carolina (4-1, 2-0 EAGL) Saturday evening at Carmichael Arena.
The Tar Heels topped the Panthers by a score of 193.625-192.450.
For the third consecutive meet, Burton secured the uneven bars crown with a season high-tying score of 9.850. Petrikis shared the vault title with UNC's Khazia Hislop, marking her first individual win of the season.
BARS
Three Panthers earned season-high scores in the first rotation. Burton led the way on bars for the third consecutive meet, tying a season-best score and winning the individual title with a 9.850. Brechwald followed in second place with her best score of 2020 with a 9.725, and Dugan completed the trio with a season high-tying 9.675. The freshman tandem of Ciara Ward and Reaia Floyd rounded out Pitt's top scores, each tallying 9.700. As a team, Pitt earned a score of 48.650 to begin the meet.
VAULT
Petrikis picked up a share of the vault individual title with a season-best score of 9.850. Ward followed with a career-best 9.800, and senior Deven Herbine rounded out Pitt's top three scores with a 9.700. Brechwald earned her second consecutive season-high score of the day with a 9.675. In total, Pitt remained on top with a two-event score of 97.300, tallying a 48.650 on vault.
FLOOR
Pitt held on to the lead through the third event, totaling 47.875 on floor and earning a meet total of 145.175. Petrikis and junior Sophie Bochenek earned team-best scores of 9.700 apiece on floor for the Panthers.
BEAM
Burton had Pitt's best beam score with a 9.725, followed by rookie Lauren Beckwith with a career-best 9.700. The Panthers totaled 47.275 for the events, and finished the day with a total score of 192.450.

Pitt will stay on the road for a quad meet at George Washington Friday, Jan. 31., at 7 p.m. ET in Washington, D.C. The Panthers will face the host Colonials, West Virginia and William & Mary.
