PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh track and field teams will compete this week at the NCAA East Preliminary Round in Jacksonville, FL with their sights set on advancing to the NCAA Track and Field Championships in Austin, TX in two weeks. The three-day meet will open up on Thursday afternoon and run through Saturday with 20 Pitt student-athletes vying for a trip to the national meet.

The three-day meet will open up on Thursday afternoon and run through Saturday with 20 Pitt student-athletes vying for a trip to the national meet.

- Competition will begin on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 pm as Sydni Townsend will take part in the women's 400m hurdles. The men's 400m hurdles will then take the track at 5:00 pm as Crockett Schooler and Matt Wilson will look to continue their seasons. Nate Sloan will run in the men's 1500m at 6:00 pm followed by Taylor Middleton in the long jump at 6:45 pm and Drew Glick in the 800m at 8:35 pm.
- Friday's action will open up at 12:00 pm as the Panthers have a trio of javelin throwers, Grant Jones, Noah Walker and Alex Scheivert, who will look to move onto Austin. At 4:30 pm, Aysha Muhammad and Eddita Pessima will compete in the women's 100m hurdles before Daveon Finley competes in the men's 110m hurdles at 5:00 pm. The duo of Josh Higgins and Zach Lefever will run the 3000m steeplechase to end the night of competition for Pitt at 9:00 pm.
- On Saturday, competition will open up at 4:00 pm with the men's long jump as Greg Lauray looks to keep his strong sophomore campaign going. Nick Wolk will then take the track for the first time in a couple weeks in the 5000m run at 8:45 pm before the women's 4x400m relay team of Sydni Townsend, Flora Ahiarakwe, Nina Crawford and Nikki Scherer will wrap up the weekend for Pitt at 9:25 pm.
- Qualifying to the Championships site is accomplished through performance in the Preliminary Round competition.
- For each individual event contested at each Preliminary Round site, the top 48 declared student-athletes and top 24 declared relay teams are accepted into the competition.
- Twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance from each Preliminary Round site.
- Those accepted into Championships competition based on their performance at Preliminary Round competition will be announced and posted on NCAA.com the week prior to Championships competition.
