Pitt Concludes Weekend at No. 41 Boston College Sunday
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team fell 5-2 to No. 30 Syracuse Friday evening at the Drumlins Country Club.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 4-13 overall and 0-10 against ACC foes. The Orange improve to 12-8 an 5-6 in conference play.
Pitt started off strong, clinching the doubles point to lead 1-0. The doubles team of senior Gabriela Rezende and sophomore Claudia Bartolome turned in the first win on court one, as the pair cruised to a 6-2 victory over Knutson/Ramirez. The point was secured thanks to a 6-4 win on court three by senior Natsumi Okamoto and freshman Mariona Perez Noguera.
Moving to singles, the Panthers fell behind, dropping all first sets to the Orange and ultimately suffering straight-set losses on all but two courts.
A forfeit on court three would give Pitt its second and final point.
Sophomore Camila Moreno was the last to finish action as she forced a third set tiebreaker on court four. Moreno dropped the first set, 4-6, bounced back to take the second 7-5, but fell 8-10 in the tiebreak.
The Panthers conclude their weekend trip Sunday, April 7 at No. 41 Boston College at 11 a.m. in Chestnut Hill, Mass.
