Panthers to Visit Denver for Quad Meet
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (7-9, 1-3 EAGL) will take on three nationally ranked opponents in a quad meet hosted by No. 6 Denver (14-2, 2-2 Big 12) Sunday at 4 p.m. ET.
Pitt will face the host Pioneers as well as No. 18 Nebraska (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) and No. 21 Arizona State (8-8, 1-4 PAC-12).

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt competed against some of the nation's top gymnasts in a road meet at No. 11 Minnesota (13-3, 8-1 Big Ten) Saturday at Maturi Pavilion.
- The Panthers fell, 197.500-193.400, in the road dual meet.
- Senior Brittany West placed third overall on balance beam with a 9.850. Freshman Olivia Miller finished third in the all-around competition, earning two career-high scores en route to a 38.350. The rookie had career bests of 9.800 on floor and 9.775 on beam.
SPIVEY NOMINATED FOR AAI AWARD
- Charli Spivey is one of 25 student-athletes nominated for the 2019 AAI Award, given to the nation's most outstanding senior gymnast. Spivey leads the Panthers with a 9.835 NQS in the floor exercise.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Senior Brittany West leads Pitt with a 9.835 NQS on beam, tied for second place in the EAGL.
- Two Panthers rank in the top 100 nationally for vault: junior Alecia Petrikis (T-87th, 9.810 NQS) and sophomore Haley Brechwald (T-92nd, 9.805 NQS). The pair ranks fifth and sixth in the EAGL, respectively.
- Senior Charli Spivey leads the Panthers with a 9.835 NQS on floor, ranking fifth in the EAGL.
PITT VERSUS DENVER
- Sunday will mark the sixth meeting between Pitt and Denver, with the Panthers owning a 3-2 advantage in the all-time series.
- The teams have not met since Feb. 28, 2009, when Pitt earned a 194.725-193.700 victory at home.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
- Denver (14-2, 3-2 Big 12) enters the week ranked No. 6 in the nation with an NQS of 197.310.
- The Pioneers are ranked in the Top 5 in two events, including bars (4th, 49.375) and beam (4th, 49.385). Denver ranks seventh in vault and sixth on floor.
- Alexis Vasquez is the No. 4 beam performer in the nation with an NQS of 9.935. Lynnzee Brown leads Denver on floor with a 9.930 NQS. Maddie Karr leads the team as the highest ranked overall performer at No. 5 in the country with a 39.595 NQS.
- Denver is 6-1 when competing at home this season, most recently defeating Iowa State and Boise State in a tri-meet with a score of 197.725 Feb. 24.
- Last time out, the Pioneers defeated Illinois-Champaign on the road 197.775-195.025 on March 1.
PITT VERSUS NEBRASKA
- Sunday will mark the second meeting between Pitt and Nebraska, with the Cornhuskers winning the only matchup in school history.
- The first time the teams met was on Feb. 24, 2018, at Nebraska where the Cornhuskers claimed a 196.425-193.600 victory.
SCOUTING THE CORNHUSKERS
- Nebraska (8-4, 6-3 Big Ten) enters the week ranked No. 18 in the nation with an NQS of 196.240.
- The Cornhuskers are ranked in the Top 15 in two events, including beam (15th, 49.000) and floor (13, 49.220). Nebraska is ranked No. 17 nationally on vault and bars.
- Taylor Houchin is the No. 15 bars performer in the nation with an NQS of 9.905. Sienna Crouse leads Nebraska on floor with a 9.895 NQS and leads the team as the No. 28 overall performer in the country with a 39.240 NQS.
- Nebraska is 2-2 when competing on the road this season, most recently placing second in a five team competition including Michigan State, Maryland, Iowa, and Penn State on Feb. 22, posting a score of 195.900.
- Last time out, the Cornhuskers defeated Southern Utah 196.825-195.050 at home on March 2.
PITT VERSUS ARIZONA STATE
- Sunday will mark the second meeting between Pitt and Arizona State, with the Sun Devils winning the only matchup in school history.
- The first time the teams met was on March 7, 1999 at Arizona State where the Sun Devils claimed a 195.825-194.300 victory.
SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS
- Arizona State (8-8, 1-4 Pac 12) enters the week ranked No. 20 in the nation with an NQS of 196.035.
- The Sun Devils are ranked in the Top 20 in three events, including vault (20th, 48.990), bars (17, 49.090) and beam (19th, 49.005). Arizona State is 26th nationally on floor at 49.090.
- Cario Leonard-Baker leads the team overall, being ranked No. 19 nationally with a 39.320 NQS. Cario is also the No. 8 bars performer in the country with a 9.920 NQS. Justine Callis ranks No. 35 nationally on beam with a 9.855 NQS.
- Arizona State is 5-5 when competing on the road this season, most recently placing second at a quad meet at Penn State with a score of 196.150.
