Pitt Gymnastics to Face Nationally Ranked Gophers
PITTSBURGH – With the conclusion of its home schedule, the Pitt gymnastics team (7-8, 1-3 EAGL) will remain on the road for the remainder of the regular season, starting with a trip to Minneapolis, Minn., to take on the No. 11 Golden Gophers Saturday at 5 p.m. ET.

A WIN WOULD…
- Be Pitt's first against Minnesota in program history, as the Golden Gophers own a 2-0 lead in the all-time series.
- Be Pitt's first win against a Big Ten opponent since defeating Michigan State, 195.375-194.600, March 3, 2017.
- Be Pitt's first road dual win since defeating No. 25 Michigan State Jan. 18, 2014, in East Lansing, Mich., by a score of 193.025-192.525.
LAST TIME OUT
- Four Panthers reached the podium as Pitt produced its best overall score of the season, earning a 195.425 in a tri-meet Friday at Fitzgerald Field House.
- The Panthers came up just short to West Virginia (195.650), but defeated Ball State (195.025). The teams competed in front of the season's largest crowd, with 1,581 in attendance at the Field House.
- Competing its final home meet of the 2019 season, Pitt celebrated Senior Night, honoring four-year competitors Lucy Brett, Krista Collins, Charli Spivey and Brittany West.
- Brett earned her second individual title of the season, tying for the bars win with West Virginia's Jaquie Tun. Each gymnast posted a 9.850. Junior Rachel Dugan joined Brett on the bars podium, placing third at 9.825. Junior Alecia Petrikis placed third on vault with a season-high 9.850, and West earned third place on beam at 9.800.
MILLER EARNS SECOND EAGL ROOKIE OF THE WEEK HONOR
- Freshman Olivia Miller earned her second East Atlantic Gymnastics League (EAGL) Rookie of the Week recognition, as announced Tuesday.
- A Monroeville, Pa., native, Miller is the first Panther to earn multiple Rookie of the Week honors since teammate Haley Brechwald did so six times in 2018, marking a league record. Miller last earned the honor for the week of Jan. 15. Earlier this month, classmate Kiley Robatin received the award, on Feb. 5.
- At the Panthers' home finale tri-meet Friday night, Miller earned a career-high score on vault, registering a 9.825. She placed fourth overall in the event. She contributed to Pitt's season-high team score for vault, marking a 49.050. She was the Panthers' lone freshman to compete on three events, working her way back into the vault and balance beam lineups after solely competing on bars at the previous meet.
SPIVEY NOMINATED FOR AAI AWARD
- Charli Spivey is one of 25 student-athletes nominated for the 2019 AAI Award, given to the nation's most outstanding senior gymnast. Spivey leads the Panthers with a 9.830 RQS in the floor exercise.
RANKING THE PANTHERS
- Two Panthers rank in the top 100 nationally for vault: sophomore Haley Brechwald (T-80th, 9.805 RQS) and junior Alecia Petrikis (T-89th, 9.800 RQS). The pair ranks fourth and sixth in the EAGL, respectively.
- Senior Charli Spivey leads the Panthers with a 9.830 RQS on floor, ranking fifth in the EAGL.
PITT VERSUS MINNESOTA
- Saturday will mark the third meeting between Pitt and Minnesota, with the Golden Gophers owning a 2-0 advantage in the all-time series.
- The teams have not met since March 11, 1989, when Minnesota earned a 187.900-179-500 victory in Minneapolis.
SCOUTING THE GOLDEN GOPHERS
- Minnesota enters the week ranked No. 11 in the nation with an RQS of 196.495.
- The Golden Gophers are ranked in the Top 25 in three events, including vault (14th, 49.100), bars (T-ninth, 49.250) and beam (12th, 49.135). Minnesota is tied for 28th nationally on floor at 48.990.
- Lexy Ramler is the No. 2 beam performer in the nation with an RQS of 9.935. She also leads Minnesota on vault with a 9.885 RQS, ranked 13th nationally. Ivy Iu is the team's leader on bars, tied for No. 7 in the nation at 9.915.
- Minnesota is 5-0 when competing at home this season, most recently defeating Maryland in a dual, 196.850-195.325, Feb. 15.
- Last time out, the Golden Gophers placed second at the Big 5 Meet, as runner-up to champion Michigan. Minnesota earned a score of 196.700 Saturday in Toledo, Ohio.

- Pitt will venture out west to Denver, Colo., for a quad meet against the host Pioneers, Arizona State and Nebraska, Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. ET. The meet will be streamed live on DenverPioneers.com.
