Pitt Faces Stiff Competition in Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS – The University of Pittsburgh gymnastics team (7-9, 1-3 EAGL) competed against some of the nation's top gymnasts in a road meet at No. 11 Minnesota (13-3, 8-1 Big Ten) Saturday at Maturi Pavilion.
The Panthers fell, 197.500-193.400, in the road dual meet.
Senior Brittany West placed third overall on balance beam with a 9.850. Freshman Olivia Miller finished third in the all-around competition, earning two career-high scores en route to a 38.350. The rookie had career bests of 9.800 on floor and 9.775 on beam.
BARS
Pitt got off to a slow start on bars, posting a 47.075 for the first rotation. Junior Rachel Dugan led the Panthers with a 9.675, followed by sophomore Sophie Bochenek and senior Krista Collins each recording 9.650.
VAULT
Junior Alecia Petrikis anchored Pitt's lineup with a team-high 9.800. Three Panthers followed with scores of 9.775: Bochenek, Miller and junior Deven Herbine. Pitt earned a 48.825 for the rotation and totaled 95.900 through two events.
FLOOR
Competing on the event for the first time since Feb. 9, Miller led the Panthers with a career-high 9.800 on floor. Senior Charli Spivey matched Miller with the team-high score. In total, Pitt earned a 48.600 and had combined 144.500 points entering the final rotation.
BEAM
West anchored the Panthers with a team-high 9.850 on beam, followed by sophomore Jordan Ceccarini with a career-high 9.800. Miller earned her second career-high score of the meet with a 9.775 for the event. Pitt totaled 48.900 for the rotation and finished the meet with a 193.400.
UP NEXT
Pitt will venture out west to Denver, Colo., for a quad meet against the host Pioneers, Arizona State and Nebraska, Sunday, March 10, at 4 p.m. ET. The meet will be streamed live on DenverPioneers.com.
