Pitt Tennis Faces Zips Thursday Night
PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team is set to the University of Akron Thursday, Feb. 7 at the Oxford Athletic Club in Wexford, Pa. The Panthers (2-3, 0-1 ACC) and the Zips (7-0, 0-0 MAC) will face off at 8:30 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
- Pitt recorded a 6-1 victory over Delaware Saturday, Feb. 3.
- The Panthers jumped to a 1-0 lead after clinching the doubles. The doubles duo of senior Gabriela Rezende and sophomore Claudia Bartolome turned in the first win of the day, 6-2, at the No. 1 spot. Soon after, senior Clara Lucas and sophomore Camila Moreno won 6-4 on court 3.
- Moving into singles, Rezende was the first to finish for the Panthers with a 6-2, 6-4 victory at the No. 5 spot. Immediately following, No. 76 Bartolome picked up another straight set victory, 6-2, 6-4, for the Panthers at No. 2.
- Senior Luisa Varon locked in the win for Pitt as she won in straight sets 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 1 singles, giving the Panthers a 4-0 advantage just as freshman Mariona Perez Noguera recorded her first collegiate win at the No. 6 spot.
- Pitt returned to the Oxford Athletic Club Sunday at 1 p.m. to face West Virginia. The Panthers ultimately dropped a 5-2 decision to the Mountaineers.
- Bartolome and Rezende were the lone Panthers to record singles wins on the day. The duo also recorded the only Pitt doubles victory of the day.
- Bartolome, who ranks No. 76 in singles, recorded her 10th win of the year against the Mountaineers, improving to 3-0 at the No. 2 position.
THE SERIES
- The Panthers and Zips meet for just the third time in program history. The two teams last met in 1999. Akron leads the series 2-0.
- Thursday's meeting comes from a match canceled on Jan. 20 due to inclement weather.
SCOUTING THE ZIPS
- In their last time out, the Zips recorded their seventh consecutive win of the season with a 4-3 victory over Boise State.
- Akron's No. 1 doubles duo of Miruna Vasilescu and Rita Pedroso lead the squad with a 4-3 record in doubles play.
- In singles, redshirt senior Sophia Geier leads the Zips this season with a 5-0 record at the No. 1 spot.
LOOKING AHEAD
- The Panthers will encounter their first road ACC contest of the season when they visit Louisville Sunday, Feb. 10, at 12 p.m.
