
Four Panthers Reach Podium as Pitt Produces Season-Best Score

Pitt Gymnastics Completes Home Season
PITTSBURGH – Four Panthers reached the podium as the Pitt gymnastics team (7-8, 1-3 EAGL) produced its best overall score of the season, earning a 195.425 in a tri-meet Friday at Fitzgerald Field House.
The Panthers came up just short to West Virginia (195.650), but defeated Ball State (195.025). The teams competed in front of the season's largest crowd, with 1,581 in attendance at the Field House.
Competing its final home meet of the 2019 season, Pitt celebrated Senior Night, honoring four-year competitors Lucy Brett, Krista Collins, Charli Spivey and Brittany West.
Brett earned her second individual title of the season, tying for the bars win with West Virginia's Jaquie Tun. Each gymnast posted a 9.850. Junior Rachel Dugan joined Brett on the bars podium, placing third at 9.825. Junior Alecia Petrikis placed third on vault with a season-high 9.850, and senior Brittany West earned third place on beam at 9.800.
VAULT
With four Panthers contributing season- or career-high scores, Pitt earned a season-best vault total of 49.050. Petrikis led the Panthers with a season-high 9.850, followed by freshman Olivia Miller and junior Deven Herbine producing career-high scores of 9.825. The final Panther to earn a career high was sophomore Sophie Bochenek with a 9.800.
BARS
Pitt extended its momentum into the second rotation, with two Panthers earning season-high scores on bars. Brett posted a season-best 9.850, and Dugan followed with a 9.825. Sophomore Haley Brechwald earned a season-high 9.800 for the event. In total, Pitt posted a 48.900 to stay in the lead at 97.950 through two events.
BEAM
West earned third place overall for her team-leading performance of 9.800 on beam. Brett followed with a 9.750, and Herbine produced a 9.725. Overall, Pitt earned a 48.700 and landed in a tie with West Virginia for first place heading into the final round at 146.700.
FLOOR
Bochenek contributed a contributed a 9.800 to lead the Panthers, followed by sophomore Jordan Ceccarini, who posted a 9.775. Brett earned a career-high score in the event with a 9.750. Pitt fell just short of West Virginia, despite earning a season-high total of 195.425, to place second in the meet.
