Panthers Resume Action Saturday, Feb. 16 with Bowling Green
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to Louisville Sunday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center in its first ACC road test of the season.
With the loss, the Panthers drop to 3-4 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Cards improve to 8-0 and pick up their first ACC win of the year.
"In doubles, Louisville came out of the gates strong and it took us a little too long to respond," said head coach Alex Santos. "In singles, we will have to work on playing aggressive, long points."
Louisville took the advantage entering singles after clinching the doubles point. The doubles team of senior Gabriela Rezende and sophomore Claudia Bartolome dropped their match at the No. 1 spot, 2-6. Soon after, seniors Natsumi Okamoto and Luisa Varon fell to Sena Suswam and Diana Wong on court two, 3-6.
Entering singles, the cards recorded back-to-back victories on courts five and six to lead 3-0 in the team race.
Sophomore Camila Moreno then fell in straight sets to No. 114 Nikolina Jovic, 3-6, 1-6 at the No. 4 spot.
Following Moreno, Rezende dropped a hard-fought battle to Raven Neely 3-6, 5-7, at No. 3 singles.
The Cardinals moved ahead 6-0 after Varon fell on No. 2 to Sena Suswam in two sets, 5-7, 0-6.
Louisville won the final team point of the match as No. 83 Bartolome fell to Aleksandra Mally at No. 1 singles. Bartolome dropped the first set 2-6, took the second 6-3, but fell 10-7 in the third.
