Women’s Soccer Drops Home Game 3-1 to No. 3 UNC

PITTSBURGH – The University of Pittsburgh women's soccer fell 3-1 to No. 3 North Carolina Sunday afternoon at Ambrose Urbanic Field. The Panthers took a 1-0 lead into halftime, but the Tar Heels scored three times in the second half to secure the victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Pitt the game's initial lead on its only shot in the first half. Receiving a pass from Anna Bout, Amanda West dribbled the ball into the left corner and delivered a cross into the box to Vildan Kardesler, who ran in and knocked it in from a few yards out.
- Amaia Pena made a save on a Tar Heels' back heel attempt a couple yards in front of her in the 21st minute.
- In the first two minutes of the second half, Pena had two diving saves.
- Pinto's goal came off a set piece, where she tracked down the ball in the box and chipped it past Pena.
- The second goal also came off another free kick.
- West had an open shot from just inside the box in the 75th minute, but the shot was straight on to UNC's goalkeeper.
- Dorwart produced the final goal a minute later.
- West recorded her 24th point and eighth assist of the year, moving ahead of Charity McClure (1998) for the second-most points and tying Roosa Arvas (2012) for the third-most assists in a single-season in program history.
- The goal allowed by the Tar Heels was just the fifth all season and first in ACC play.
- North Carolina outshot Pitt 28-3 and had a 5-2 corner kicks advantage.
- Pena made a season-high eight saves.
- West placed both of her shots on goal.

- The Panthers conclude a three-game homestand next Saturday at 7 p.m. against NC State.
