PITTSBURGH – Marcella Lamark dos Santos, a 6-4 center from Sao Paulo, Brazil, has joined the University of Pittsburgh women's basketball team, Panthers first-year head coach Lance White announced on Friday. Lamark dos Santos will have a year and a half of eligibility remaining as she will be able to begin competition for the Panthers following the first semester of the 2019-20 campaign.
"We are very excited to add Marcella to our basketball team," said White. "She adds much needed size to our front court and her ability to shoot and pass the basketball make her an asset in the next phase of our growth as a program."
Lamark dos Santos spent the fall semester at Texas Tech where she didn't see action in any games after two successful seasons at the College of Central Florida. She was a very high-touted junior college transfer coming from the College of Central Florida as she received offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
The Sao Paulo, Brazil native finished off her sophomore season at College of Central Florida starting all 23 games while ranking second on the team in scoring (13.1 PPG) and leading the team in rebounding (9.1 RPG) and blocks (2.0 BPG). The powerful center was also very efficient from the floor as she netted 47.1% of her attempts across an average of 20.7 minutes/game.
During her freshman campaign, Lamark dos Santos posted 8.4 points and 4.6 rebounds while posting a 19-point performance and double-double in the season opener for the Patriots.
The gifted big will have an opportunity to contribute right away once she is eligible in the 2019-20 campaign as the Panthers will be graduating three post players following the season.
