Panthers Fall 4-1 to Florida State

PITTSBURGH -- The Pitt tennis team dropped a hard-fought battle to Florida State, 4-1, Sunday afternoon at the Alpha Tennis and Fitness Center.

Redshirt senior Amber Washington was the lone Panther to earn a victory on the day as she recorded her 14^th singles win of the season.

Florida State clinched the doubles point after collecting wins on courts one and two. The duo of senior Audrey Blakely and sophomore Clara Lucas first dropped a 6-3 decision to Nandini Das and Ariana Rahmanparast. The sophomore tandem of Gabriela Rezende and Natsumi Okamoto were making their way back on court six, trailing 5-4, however the match was abandoned as Washington and junior Callie Frey fell short, 6-4, on court one.

In singles, Lucas and Rezende were the first Pitt players to drop their matches, giving the Seminoles a 3-0 advantage.

Washington then turned in the next victory at No. 1 singles as she outlasted Gabriella Castaneda, 7-5, 6-2. The first set was tied on three different occasions, but it was Washington that took the last three games and dominated the second set.

Okamoto was the last Panther to fall, although went down fighting as she dropped the first set 6-2 and battled back to trail 5-4 before falling in the final game for a 6-4 loss.

Pitt hits the road for a pair of North Carolina road matches starting at Duke Saturday, April 1 at noon. The Panthers conclude the weekend at NC State Sunday, April 2 at noon as well.
