EVANSTON, Ill. – The University of Pittsburgh tennis team concluded action at its second fall invite of 2017 Sunday evening at the Wildcat Invite on the campus of Northwestern University.
Pitt recorded four total wins between singles and doubles in the final day.
"We showed a big heart on all courts today and for that reason I am extremely proud," head coach Alex Santos said. "The quality of the tennis played was very high and I see all players eager to keep raising the bar. Moving forward, we need to do a better job of running with leads and wanting the responsibility to dictating play."
In singles, junior Luisa Varon defeated UIC's Lejla Colic in the Gray Flight. Varon dropped the first set 6-3 but bounced back in the second and third sets, 7-5, 7-5.
Junior Gabriela Rezende also picked up a win in singles this afternoon as she took down Marquette's Fleur Eggink, 6-4, 6-4.
Doubles play featured a win by the duo of Rezende and sophomore Jovana Knezevic recorded a 6-2 win over their Michigan State opponent.
The junior doubles team of Clara Lucas and Natsumi Okamoto also won their doubles match. Lucas and Okamoto downed CSU's Lorea Gamboa and Alana Andrews, 6-1.
The Panthers will take some time off before hitting the road again for their next competition. Pitt heads to the ITA Atlantic Regional Championships beginning Friday, Oct. 13 in Blacksburg, Va.
