Day Two Results
CORAL GABLES, Fla. - The Pitt tennis team recorded four total wins Saturday at the Miami Fall Invite before play was yet again suspended due to inclement weather conditions.
"I was very proud of our fight in doubles," head coach Alex Santos said. "We were down on two of the three courts but the girls never stopped believing. If we can keep this resilience when we get down in matches, we will improve our doubles play. In singles, unfortunately we couldn't complete and/or start any match because of the weather but we were tested and responded well."
Play resumed early this morning as players completed the unfinished singles matches from Friday. Junior Callie Frey opened her Saturday by defeating Laura Fabrizi of FAU, 6-3, 6-4, while sophomore Clara Lucas also picked up a win over her FAU opponent, Ana Gutierrez, 7-5, 7-5. Also resuming her singles match was sophomore Natsumi Okamoto, who dropped a 6-1, 6-2 decision to Heather Walton.
The teams then moved to doubles play, where the Panthers took on FAU. The veteran tandem of seniors Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan outlasted Ana Gutierrez and Alisa Rudenko, 6-1, while the doubles team of Frey and redshirt senior Amber Washington also won 6-1 over Laura Fabrizi and Naiya Oden. The sophomore duo of Lucas and Gabriela Rezende fell 6-4 to Lyndsey Boos and Kaitlyn Walker.
Much like yesterday, singles play began but was eventually halted at 12:22 p.m. due to lightning in the area. However, before play was suspended, Frey was able to get her match in but fell to Miami's Estela Perez-Somarriba, 6-0, 6-0. Below are singles that were left unfinished:
No. 5 Sinead Lohan (UM) vs. Amber Washington (UP), 6-4, 3-0 (currently unfinished)
