GREENSBORO, N.C. – University of Pittsburgh cross country members Chris Montgomery and Gillian Schriever have been named to the 2015 All-ACC Academic Cross Country Team, as announced by league officials on Thursday.
To be eligible for consideration for the team, a student-athlete must have earned a 3.00 grade point average for the previous semester and maintained a 3.00 cumulative average during his or her undergraduate academic career. Graduate students needed to maintain at least a 3.5 grade point average for both the previous semester and for their graduate school careers.
A junior majoring in economics, Montgomery was one of Pitt’s most consistent runners in 2015. The Sparta, N.J. native led the Panthers in three races, including both postseason meets at the ACC championships and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional.
Schriever, a freshman majoring in chemical engineering, led the Panthers to new heights in her rookie campaign. The Tuckerton, N.J. native had a standout inaugural season as Pitt’s top performer.
Schriever led the Panthers in four of eight meets in 2015, including the ACC Championship Meet and the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional. Schriever helped Pitt place seventh at the Mid-Atlantic Regional – its best finish in program history. Placing 30th overall, she missed All-Region honors by five places.
This is the first time Montgomery and Schriever have earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team.
Both Montgomery and Schriever have translated their success on the trails over to the track where they are preparing for the ACC Indoor Championship Meet coming up at the end of February.
