Panthers Conclude Day Two of Wildcat Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. - The Pitt tennis team concluded its second day of action at the Wildcat Invitational Saturday, Oct. 3.
"It was a great accomplishment to finish the day with three of our players undefeated in doubles and singles at such a high caliber tournament," said head coach Alex Santos. "We competed very well in doubles across the board and Callie [Frey], Lolade [Ogungbesan] and Amber [Washington] carried that momentum into singles. I like this group a lot and I have great trust and believe in them."
The senior doubles team of Audrey Ann Blakely and Lolade Ogungbesan came out victorious in the Doubles A Draw in the first half of the day as they collected two wins. The tandem first defeated Avgerinos/Zordani of Wisconsin, 6-4, followed by Marinovska/Mayerova of EMU, 6-4, to claim the title.
Redshirt senior Amber Washington and junior Callie Frey also picked up two wins Saturday. The duo defeated LeBlanc/Sanders of UIC, 6-1, and Waldram/Miller of Notre Dame, 6-3, in the Doubles A Draw.
Competing in the Doubles B Draw, sophomore Gabriela Rezende and freshman Jovana Knezevic dropped two matches to their Northwestern and DePaul opponents.
In singles action, Washington used her momentum to defeat Alex Chatt of Northwestern, 7-6 (3), 6-2, while Frey also record a 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (7) win over Zoe Douglas of Iowa. Blakely suffered a 6-3, 6-2 loss to Sedi Jacobs of UK. Ogungbesan also recorded a win in singles today, as she defeated Marie Mayerova of EMU 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (4).
The Panthers resume action Sunday, Oct. 2 at 9 a.m. in the final day of the Wildcat Invite.
