CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- The Pitt tennis team continued its strong play in the second day of the Harvard Invitational on Saturday. The Panthers outlasted Boston University in all but one match.

"To win 11 out of 12 matches against a team that made it to the NCAA tournament last season is a great accomplishment," head coach Alex Santos said. "It was a true team effort where every single girl was accountable for their court and overcame adversity to get the job done. In doubles we made the minor adjustments that needed to be made and that momentum and confidence carried into singles. I liked our stubbornness and competitiveness and we are without a doubt learning important lessons for the future. Tomorrow it will be important to improve and we will try to end on a high note."

All eight Panthers posted victories in singles today, including freshmen Carina Ma, Gabriela Rezende, Clara Lucas and Natsumi Okamoto. The freshmen wins were highlighted by Okamoto who battle with senior Kim McCallum and came out on top, 7-5, 5-7, 7-6 (4). Ma collected her second singles win of the weekend after defeating Sabrina Faybyshev 6-3, 1-6, 6-4.

Pitt claimed all but one doubles match. The duo of Audrey Ann Blakely and Gabriela Rezende continued their winning ways by defeating Rodriguez/Kostirko, 8-7 (2). The freshman tandem of Ma/Okamoto dominated Malik/Semashko, 8-1, while the veteran team of Ogungbesan/Washington took down Hyoty/Faybyshev, 8-5.

The Panthers will conclude its fall slate on Sunday as they take on ACC-foe Syracuse at 9:30 a.m.
