MONROEVILLE, Pa.—After posting its fourth shutout of the season, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team remained perfect in Big East play with a 7-0 victory over Villanova, this afternoon, at The Club. The Panthers are 10-3 overall and 5-0 in the conference.
This is the first time in Pitt’s program history the team has accomplished the feat of starting conference play at 5-0. Earlier this season, the Panthers opened the year with a 7-0 mark, which was also a Pitt first.
Adding to its season of milestones, Pitt has now won the doubles point in 12 matches this year. Against Villanova, the Panthers were perfect, as they won all three doubles to start the match with a 1-0 lead.
The team of senior Kristy Borza and Elizabeth Adams improved to 13-0 in the spring, while the No. 3 duo of senior Christie D’Achille and junior Shannon Benic are now 6-0 since becoming a pair.
Sweeping the doubles was only a preview of what was to come in singles, as Pitt took all six matches.
The Panthers will be back in action on Wednesday, March 25, at Carnegie Mellon. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m.
