Women's Tennis Continues Strong Doubles Play

MONROEVILLE, Pa.—Consistent in doubles play, the University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team won a 5-2 decision over Youngstown State on Wednesday afternoon. The Panthers improved to 9-3 on the season.
Winning the doubles point in its 11th match this season, Pitt took the early 1-0 lead in the contest. The Panther’s No. 1 team of senior Kristy Borza and sophomore Elizabeth Adams won their 18th match of the season. Additionally, senior Christie D’Achille and junior Shannon Benic improved to a flawless 5-0 mark as a pair.
The Panthers then took a stand in singles with four wins. Adams was the first to finish, as she gave up just one game in her two-set victory of 6-0, 6-1. Sophomore Adela Aprodu was also stingy, winning 6-2, 6-1 in No. 5 singles, while Borza won 6-2, 6-2 as the Panther’s No. 1.
Benic gave Pitt its fifth and final point of the day with a pair of 6-4 victories. Benic is 5-2 since moving into the No. 6 slot for the Panthers.
Freshman Minh Evans forced a third set in No. 3 singles, when she shutout her opponent, 6-0. Evans would later go into a super tiebreaker with her opponents and fall 11-9.
Pitt will resume Big East play on Friday, March 20, against Villanova, at 11 a.m. The Panthers are currently 4-0 in conference play.
