Women's Tennis Falls to Army, 5-2

MONROEVILLE, Pa.—The University of Pittsburgh women’s tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Army, this afternoon, at The Club. Pitt fell to 8-3 on the season, while the Black Knights improved to 12-7.
The No. 3 doubles team of senior Christie D’Achille and junior Shannon Benic came back from an early deficit to take the lead and a 9-7 victory). Pitt’s undefeated pair of senior Kristy Borza and sophomore Elizabeth Adams then sealed the doubles point with an 8-5 victory of their own.
In singles, Adams recorded a three-set victory. First, she dropped a close 7-5 opener. Then she forced the tiebreaker after winning 6-2 in the second set. In the third set, she ran away with a 6-1 victory.
Playing in No. 1 singles, Borza was the only Panther to win her first set in singles, as she earned a shutout 6-0.
Meanwhile, sophomore Adela Aprodu fought hard in the second set of her match for a 7-5 edge. Aprodu later played a very competitive third set, where she fell 10-8 in No. 5 singles.
The Panthers host Youngstown State, next, on Wednesday, March 18, at 12:30 p.m.
