Later, Davies also won her singles match, earning 63 career singles victories to tie current volunteer assistant coach Nikki Borza (1999-03) for the third-best mark on the singles career wins list.
"Annie is to be congratulated for her four years of making contributions to this University," said head coach George Dieffenbach. "It is not just because of her work on the court but in the classroom, as well.
"Since we still have plenty of tennis to play, we look forward to Annie putting an exclamation mark on the end of the season."
Smith (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) also made history for Pitt this afternoon, as she became the ninth member of the 100-Victory Club with a win over Chelsea Downing (6-0, 6-2) in the No. 2 singles slot. Smith became the first-ever junior to accomplish this feat.
"There hasn't been a player that's entered the 100-Victory Club level faster than Carlie," Dieffenbach said. "All of her victories have done a lot to support this team's accomplishments while she has been here. This puts her in a very unique place in history."
This is also the first time in program's history that two Panthers joined the 100-Victory Club in the same season.
"I appreciate all of the hard work, effort and talent these two have achieved in accomplishing there individual records today," Dieffenbach added.
